ok so right now im looking into a 91 honda civic hatch its got a fully built b18b motor in it but i would like to go vtec....as far as i know the bottom end of the motor is built becuz its got a 40 over bore.....i know that i can wire up and run oil lines to a b16 head if i wanted to but can i put a b18c vtec head on it????
yep and we have a some nice tech forums where you can search and find every answer you could ever need on ls/vtec builds. try:
-civic
-integra
-engine tech
-hybrid/ jdm
-all motor if that's your path, or turbocharger or supercharger if that's what you plan on.

yes.
b16 is cheaper
b18c is more expensive (but you get like 4-6 more hp's i think its is)

i was actually put in my place yesterday i think on the b16 being cheaper and flowing better than the b18c head (what i had always read for my 7 years as a b-series enthusiast), soo.. looks like you're right about one but all those flow bench #s ppl used to post have driven up the b16a's cost.
thanks alot guys......but i think i might just go with a ls motor and just boost it.
not a bad idea.. especially since you say it's "fully built." if it's built for NA performance, i.e. high compression.. it may be better to consider a supercharger.

im to tired, but huh?
like the b16 actually makes more power or what!?
please explain that to me again, im fuckin wore out right now and dont wanna think

i was baked when i typed that.. i thought b16 heads flowed better (it's what i read for the longest on these forums). i also had always seen them for cheaper than b18c heads too.
the other day i posted these "facts" and some cat who happens to live like 3 miles from me told me i was way wrong. he's actually running the b18c head on a b18c5 block. the b16 heads also went up in price from everybody thinking they flowed better, so i was wrong on that too.
i think what i was telling you was that you're right about the b18c head making more power (flowing better), but wrong about saving money by buying a b16 head over the 18. i'm baked now too though so i hope this makes sense.
also this is just one guy, but nobody argued with him & he's got a nasty teg i'm going to go check out tomorrow night, so....

as far as b16 head vs. gsr head...
the quench area of the gsr head is better...but the intake and exhaust ports are better on the b16 head...on the gsr head, the injector is at a steep angle because of the design of the 2-stage manifold..the b16 ports are lower in the head thus entering the cumbustion chamber at a lower angle..the intake ports in the gsr head are steep as well...the gsr head creates more tubulance for the air because of how much the air has to change directions and how drastically it does...this isnt the case with the b16 head because its a more direct path...on the exhaust side, the gsr head has a short bottom side radius that causes the air to change directions mroe abruptly..you can make more torque with the b16 head because of the flow characteristics of it...b16 has better flow, but the gsr has a better quench pad..if you do the same aggressive port jobs on both motors though, you will make mroe high rpm hp w/ the gsr head..because of the port volume and the angle of the ports work beter in the high end
