Is it just me that knows about this. Your belt snaps and your left stranded so you used panti hose to replace the belt to get you home. any one else hear about this. i heard about that trick from an old gear head that said hes used it before to get it home. any one else hear of it or used it
I've had to use it before. I'd suggest you just use it to get to the nearest belt seller. You have to stretch it pretty tight and then it'll still slip. Not to mention your wife gets pretty PO'd when she finds out they weren't hers that you had stuffed under the seats.
i could see this trick working for like ps or alternator or whatever, but it would never work for the timing
it doesnt work for to long either its like one of those things to get you home. kinda like a spare tire it'll get you home but spare tires have there limits as does this
I think there is lot more room for error when using a spare tire as opposed to a slipping timing belt. I can't see this working at all. Also if you break your timing belt will you be able to just drive away anyways?
you guys know hes talking about the alt belt...theres no way panty hose would work on timing belt if you could even easily get to it anyway..

yup. like you said timing belt isnt possible but it can work for the alt belt. ive been asking a few people about it and im suprised at the number of people that have never heard of this.
what i want to know is who originally came up with the idea
haha yea timing belt, first of all if your timing belt snapped than your motor is most likely fucked. There is no point in using panty hose for any of the belts if you snap one. You can have your alt belt off long enough to get to a belt store to not have to worry about using panty hose and the other ones, if your really that desperate that you need ps and a/c all the time than go for it.
let me ask you why you would just have random pantyhose in your car
i think how the whole thing started was that at some point some guys belt broke and they were out in the middle of no where and I assume his chick had panti hose so then he goes hmmm maybee that will work and goes bitch give me yuour panti hose and he used it and it worked. Then he told some one and some one told some one else and hence forth and some other people did it and it worked and then eventually it gets to me
I have seen it in person, it really does work, but only for a short time.
Unless you make it a habit of wearing pantyhose, you'd do better to buy an emergency adjustable temporary universal belt, and keep it in your car. I have two in my truck. TwilightZone, Kragen, etc all sell them.
I'm my time in the off-road racing world (trucks, Baja 1000, Baja 500 and the like) I've learned that there are many things that can do double duty.
Dry dog food and/or raw oatmeal can plug a leaking cooling system,
Seat belts can be removed from the race car and strung together for use as a tow strap,

"Dry dog food and/or raw oatmeal can plug a leaking cooling system" I was just going to say that only i've heard of an old head i worked with knocking on someones door for an egg, thats right an egg. He used the egg white in his rad.. and any and all leaks where sealed. Thats Old School for ya.
