Brainwreck is an unknown quantity at this point
problem with rpm-gauge

i'm having a problem with my rpm gauge. when i pull up to 8000 rpm the gauge says 3000, so is a bit of a prob. What could be the problem? can anyone help me with this?

coulb be a bad connector (Blue wire)
look if its pinched or scratched open

what model year is the car?

Hopefully your engine is built to handle taking it up to 8000rpm.

It sounds like a bad sensor. It is getting too low of a signal, which is causing your gauge to give low readings. Happened in my friend's MR2.

as far as i know, the RPM (tach) reads the signal/current from the distributor.
while speedometer is from the VSS .

Ahh true. Thats why people pull the speed sensor ,....to get rid of miles. The tach feeds from the engine.
