IMO makita wins, dewalt a close second... both are contractor grade.. i just say makita wins cause i have the white 18 volt makita kit with impact and drill...ive tested them both against my bosses dewalts....my makita's are just all around better.....they dont last as long but for $100 bux i can but a battery the size of a dewalt battery and it will last 2x as long...

rigid> than all
well thats because rigid makes me alot of money at work, no other tool company makes a Pony , vise, hogs head, and the best pipe wrench, but dewalt has that damn vac, grinder, and radio/charger that I love so much

I mostly use air tools, and a majority of those are cheap Harbor Freight ones. For what I do, they hold up pretty well. I've beaten the tar out of my little cutter that uses the 3inch discs, and it still works like the day I got it...for $5.
For electric power tools, I would say DeWalt is probably my favorite. That's just out of what I've used, so I can't comment on IR, Snap On, etc. They're nice looking, and I bet very nice quality, but they're way too expensive.

yeah i have some harbor freight airtools, some snap on, some mac, and a few craftsman i dont see any diffrence in HF airtool quality... as far as dewalt, etc being too expensive, when it is your job to build things trust me that price quickly becomes affordable after your ryobi goes through 10 batterys when your buddys dewalt is still running on its first one

If you're working for a living, then yeah, it's totally different. I just work on stuff in my garage on my own time. If a tool breaks, who cares, I'll get a replacement whenever I get around to it. As far as cordless tools, I'd only buy a DeWalt, since all the other cordless ones I've used have no torque and the dang batteries die too soon.
