Reliability

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum so forgive me if I am asking stupid questions. I have a 95 Accord LX and I am thinking of adding some performance upgrades like intake and such. My real concern is reliability. I know that a lot of shows on tv just stick a stage 3 turbo in a car but they never mention how long that car will last with that upgrade. So I was wondering if anyone knew are there certain upgrades to the car that can increase reliability while also improving performance? Or maybe some upgrades which are necessary when you install any kind of performance upgrade to increase reliability?

Thanks

like Ultramag says all the time there are 3 things about tuning: power, cost and reliability, you are allowed only 2

Reliabilty isn't a factor when the product is properly installed, tuned, maintained and the way the person drives the vehicle. By putting on a Stage 3 turbo kit it would have to be tuned properly. As long as you drive the car and not abuse it you will be fine.

Absolutely! But no matter what, putting a stage 3 turbo on your car will put more strain on the engine by increasing the dynamic compression ratio. That will increase the temperatures in the cylinder and start melting the piston, valves and everything. So I guess it would be a good idea to replace those parts with more durable ones.

So, here is what I am asking. When you tune for performance, you start out with filters, intake, exhaust, etc... Even these simple upgrades will have more strain on the engine. So are there also some kind of guidelines that when you install some certain performance parts, you should also consider replacing others with more durable ones? Like the turbo example, you may consider new pistons that can handle higher temperatures.

The reason that I am asking is that, I know a bit about cars, basics at least. However, I know there is a lot of stuff out there to be learned. Obviously with the cost of this stuff, I don't want to learn through trial and error. So I'm looking for some guidelines.

Thank you.
