Roll bar Sketches
so i'm in the process of getting some safety equipment put into the mr-s so i can get onto more tracks....the fabrication shop had some problems trying to think of how to make the rear support bars functional while keeping the soft top functional. a fellow mr-s owner out in maryland helped me realize how to get it to work out and i've made some preliminary sketches and would like some feedback on them
of course, they're not to scale since they are just sketches
5 point bar sketch
6 point bar sketch i put the seat in this sketch for reference.
any additions i should make? or you guys think it's good? what other things are needed to be nasa and/or scca track legal?

thanx for the PM ultra....hmmmm....if anything, i believe if your going to put a cage in, its a long-term thing and its not only a body rigidity issue, but obviously a big safety issue. i would GO NOTHING UNDER 6 point cage. i believe in go all the way or no way at all, especially considering this is part of a safety issue.
for the 6 point design, im a little iffy if its not going across the front a-pillars.....the back is solid, u cant go wrong with a cross over-subframe rear....thats just simple geometry and physics...the rear frame should frame ur "B-pillar" (or where it should be cos u dont have one).
just remember: if ur goin for track, the Tein HA's should be good enough, but make sure u've got ur sway bars on hardest setting.....because ur Tein HA's will require one of the hardest if not the hardest setting to keep up with the rigidity of the roll cage.....

also my other concern would be the pivot lock.....that seems to be a weak link to me, if something unbecoming were to happen (i.e. crash), say goodbye to that bolt, that will snap faster than a chopstick in a thai prostitute in those thai sex shows.....

that pin actually is super beefy. i was pretty sketchy about it at first but he showed me the materials for that. pretty gangster

For SCCA and NASA completion neither will be allowed. First you need hoops that go from the top of your main hoop and run along the roof towards the dash and then down the pillar. Also you need a bar that runs across the front either under the dash or right in front of it. Third instead of the two bars that angle down towards the firewall, are more for drag racing. For road racing they need to be higher up. No pins are allowed no matter how beefy, but this is only completion, otherwise looks like a good drag cage.

I am just going by what I have had to change or add through out the years. I was just trying to help like you asked. I know I had to add a bar that goes across the front over the steering wheel a few years ago. Was the 350z doing school or open track because they have different rules. The miata's that run open track can have a set up close to yours. But in like spec miata they need a cage that forms the square above the drive so if the car flips the windshield does not decapitate the driver.

here's a legal 5pt bar
my rollbar will be using this template as a starting point, then will be upgradable in the future

i don't have a miata and autopower doesn't make a cage or even an effective rollbar for my car. the style bar they do make does increase the handling characteristics though but if the car rolls, the bar will basically mousetrap my head

Your car is convertable right? I was just showing you what is required for SCCA. Just an example. I know you don't have a miata.
---'Spec Miata' roll cage kit meets SCCA requirements when properly installed. .----
Cages don't move when you roll over. That's why they are called a Roll cage
So no fear mouse trapping your head.
Icons are not nessasary UltraMagneticAL, I am just trying to help

hmmm.....for some odd reason..it looks to me like the 6 point will totally delete your passanger seat. am i right? or am i just looking at it stupid? and this car is your daily driver right?
but yeah those sketches look good. and those pics really helped me in picturing what they would look like on your car.

yeah that cage is good for spec miata club racing, but that's not where i'll be racing. i'm saying that the bar that autopower makes is not a good candidate for the mr-s because that bar will mousetrap. a good bar with strong supports won't do that. autopower's support bars on the mr-s model are only bolted down 3" away from the main hoop which is not good.
