Sound Deadening Tip - Make your car quieter , easy.
Ok was messing around with the audio system and I have this rattle that comes from the rear. While trying to get rid of it , I stumbled upon this tip.
Basically where the license plate connects to the trunk , it creates a lot of vibration and resonance. To remove that and create sound deadening for what seems to be the entire trunk lid. You insert a piece of foam behind the license plate and screw through that tightly & attaching as normal. Just with a foam now inline with the screw...
>--|-<>->|-> - Screw goes this way , <> is the foam , >-----> is the screw and | is the license plate then the trunk lid.
This effectively removes any sort of vibration from the license plate to trunk lid and help damper the whole trunk lid. Now it should make a more solid thud , instead of a PRONGGGGGGGG.
-- TEST it out yourself , see what you think. Ill have photos later for the ones who like to see everything done via pictures.

Just insert a piece of foam behind the license plate , and screw the screw through that and attach as normal. Ill have pics soon.

I used to use adhesive backed foam weather stripping. It's avalible at most stores (hardware, home improvement, Walmart, Kmart, etc) and you can get a big roll for a few bucks.
Just take the plate off, apply a few strips across the back of the plate and reinstall plate.

Sounds good. Yeah I would like to try dynamat as well for the sound deadening. Im trying to find key spots I could place it to remove any further clanging.

screw, lic plate, foam, back of the trunk lid
btw, i have like 8 rolls of dynamat extreme in my car and the funny thing is my lic. plate never rattled even before the dynamat..
that's cuz my lic. plate is down by the bumper, not the trunk lid ehhee..
the only thing that slightly rattles is my spoiler..
dynamat is good...but if the radio is off i can still hear somethings around the passenger side A pillar area and my rear view with my VAFC mounted on there...
Post those pics! I don't have any bad noises, besides
targa roof squeeks, but I never liked license plate holders,
so all I've got is license and screws, but your foam
solution made me think of putting some plastic washers
back there, just to maybe protect the finish.
Last two times I replaced the actual license plate,
though, it/the paint, looked fine. I think I'll try either
one, just for the peace-o-mind. Foam might be better,
so: pics, please .

Or you could drill another hole for the bottom screw holes to screw into. just go out and buy some bolts and mollys. drill two holes install the mollies, then screw in the boltsand your plates aren't going anywhere.sometimes helps to cut off part of the licsence plate holder clips at the bottom.
