strange hypothetical question

You know how the police can use an electromagnetic discharge to immobilize a vehicle? Do you think is it possible to use a lead ECU housing and distributor cap to prevent this?

The police EMC is just prototype stuff, but um no.

The electricity would travel through the body and frame of the vehicle. Its almost impossible to stop an EMC. And why would lead stop it? Its conductive. Lead is one of the base materials used in solder.

the only way to stop an EM flare is to be generating a protective EM cloak around your ecu at all times...a very powerful one....one that would make you sterile and give you a headache.

Even if you were able to shield your ECU, if you have an automatic, it will affect your TCM. A different thing in development is a little rocket powered RC car that would be fired from the front of the cruiser. It would go under the car, and a verticle wire would discharge on the car's frame, effectively frying everything.

On some models the AC controls are located on the door panels. Temperature is selected by how far you rotate the crank and the fan is operated by the long skinny pedal to the far right. The further you depress this pedal, the higher the air flow.

Nowhere did I say I wanted to run from the cops. When the technology gets out there, anybody will be able to buy it on the black market. I only asked to satisfy my "what if" daydreams.

An EM pulse only affects electronic devices that are on. So just put a batery disconect in the cabin and when the cops roll on you turn your car off and flip the switch. Then while they wait for the ray gun to charge light everything back up and zoom away. Or just pull over and take it like a man.

It's also a cheap way to get your ass kicked and thrown into jail. My method for doing this to to take a swing at a bouncer at a bar. After the many bouncers get done stomping your face into the ground, they sometimes will toss you to the cops for a night in jail. Double Score!
