When to shift on low power-early torque engine?

I'm currently driving a 1.5L i-DSi Jazz, although it kicks ass on low rpm situation (quick dash in urban/city area), the 8 valve engine hesitates when I do an open throttle over 80Kph. The manual stated that max torque is at 13.1Kgm@2700rpm and max power at 87ps@5500rpm.

My past experience with Civic and Accord (D17 and F23) shift point is very obvious, until red line the engine just still oozing with power, or at least still willing to revv. But with my current car, the engine is hesitating to cross over 4500rpm, so I have to shift at that point, not at 5500rpm. The car also use CVT 7 speed semi matic option.

Is it normal for the car to shift at 4500rpm rather than 5500rpm? Is the 8 valce configuration and the lower end torque equals to slow revving engine above 4000rpm?

Appreciate any info guys, engine noob here...

I've heard that about some cars, that it's better to change gears before redline, just where the torque peak trails off, & the car will accelerate better.

Ouch... Where the torque peak trails off eh... So around 4000rpm or so... Damn, no VTEC this engine is...

The engine just felt very heavy revving on high speed cruising. But I'll live it, after all, life started after 1500rpm on this car .

true sometimes, but if it peaks too soon and you shift to early, youll end off at a really low rpm in the next gear

torque...

I had a 1974 pontiac GTO, 350 ci 3spd auto, and it shifted at 3500 rpm with the pedal to the metal, and man it pulled hard. some motors are designed with low end. so sift accordingly...

May be you should buy a intake, use some better gas and good tune up would make things a little better for you.

Speedshifter7 is an unknown quantity at this point
if ur power trails off there...then that is where u shift......deffinantly..guys who shift on redline in civic's get eaten for breakfast with people in the exact same car who shift at the very end of the powerband.. so im guessing ur gears are a lil longer..and u get lots of power between 2000-4000,, just shift at 4500 at max..and u should be fine..don't try to overwork an engine that doesn't wanna go there

Thanks man, I like your car too. I try to keep it clean and not add any part I can get my hands on just to modify my car. Im going towards the sleeper look. Mostly just performance parts.
