Just from what I hear on here after you've reached about 200 Horses is a good time to call it quits on a d with stock internals. Psi is not what you have to worry about, it's horsepower thats gonna hurt you. I'm planning out a turbo for my d series. I'm going to do a complete tear down and rebuild with some damn good rods and vitara pistons and a reworked head. If your just going turbo until you save for a b, just save your money IMO. After all the time and money spent on the turbo and dyno tuning and all that fun stuff you'd be in up to your eyeballs.

Agreed, then take most of the turbo components and add them to a b series, some parts you will be able to reuse and some you wont.

yeah i would go with the "boost till you blow" strategy..lol

but i dont think i can go without a car for as much time as it takes to find a b series and buy all the stuff and whatnot

i hear that, thats what is preventing me from doing half the shit i want to to do my car, my shit has to run to get me back and forth reliably!

from what i have read, you can run 6-7 psi reliably and safely without any problems on stock internals (around the 180-200 hp mark)

if you go above this level, into the 200+ range, or if you raise your psi's or head into bar territory, i'd look into JE, Mahle, JUN pistons/rods, and upgrade your valvetrain to JUN or skunk2 components. when it comes to your engine, i personally wouldn't go with the "lowest common denominator" for price, you don't want that shit to break.

hope this helps man, good luck!

Shane...I know you're younger right? I think you said at one time 18ish?

Anyway, another question to ask is..can you afford this? Not just the turbo/parts itself, but the upkeep? And like everyone said, if it blows...can you afford to drop another motor in that min? I know the car your wanting to turbo is your DD. Just think about that, too.
