D15B7 things are breaking; what to do?
I have a D15B7 and I racked up 196,000 miles on it. I have beated it pretty good. Well just recently cylinder three has been leaking compression through a broken ring. Soon I'm afraid more things are going to break. My mom thinks I should swap in something in it's place. I want the k20A, but she said it was too expensive and maybe in 2 or 3 years I should do that. I figure, I could swap in something for the mean time and maybe even add a turbo and have me some fun. But which motor should I use?

Oh, I almost forgot; the motor has to come from the junkyard and it has to be a D-Series.

Your mom suggested a swap? Haha thats pretty cool. My D15B7 just died, but I got a B swap ready to get in soon. That D16z6 is from a 92-95 civic Ex or Del-Sol Si. It has VTEC so that would make it better than the B7 you have and it also has more displacement. The D16y8 wouldnt be bad either cause its from a newer car so it could have lower mileage, but the z6 would probably be an easy swap. I think you would only have to get a VTEC ECU, and some wiring for VTEC I think, but I know you need a different ECU if you want the VTEC to work. Your tranny should bolt up too.

i had a d16z6 in mine. came stock and i loved it. well, i only loved it when my 14" rims were on. 17" rims took away a lot of HP.
but you're in VT, there's a lot of cars just parked in fields, i'm sure you could pick up a V8

There are tons of V8's, I traveled to 8 junkyards in the east side of VT and the west side of NH and I found very few Honda's of any kind, let alone a rare 92-95' Si HB. But the D16Y8, now that is more common I would think, of course, Before this, I've never needed one, so I really wasn't paying much attention.

I would really like that a lot, like you have no idea; A LOT!!!
I will only be in VT for this Spring and Summer, after that I go down to UTI in Penn. To return the favor, I'll let you drive my car, which isn't much fun in the straights, but it likes nothing more to be wipped around on open back country roads. So what is the best D-Series motor for cheap that likes turbo's and is easy on the wallet, which I could use for the next 2-3 years with no problems, or at least without the block cracking or something catistrophic happening.

Yea, my mom, used to be a technician for Mercedes-Benz and used to race 510 Datsun's before I was born; hows that for being a cool mom?
That would be great if my tranny would bolt up; because I have done a bit of tranny work recently and would hate to have to start all over. I am reaching forwards the D16Z6, easier sounds better right now, but if I can count on either one to handle a turbo better, that'll be the one I'll be going with.
