Tire D15Y7

ok, I know what your all going to say, but I am curious anyway

Vehicle: 1997 Civic DX, D15Y7 engine

being that this particular vehicle is my daily driver, i really am not intrested in doing an engine swap just yet, perhaps a bit down line, but for now I want to do mild power adders, just to get it going a little bit quicker

I am basically looking for I/H/E... I figured an AEM or Weapon-R intake, and I was probably going to do a custom exhaust...

HOWEVER, if somebody could point me in the right direction for a name brand exhaust and quality headers for this engine that would be most appreciated!

(the days I wish I had D16Y8 lol)

I know this is all kind of pointless to do to a DX, but whatever, I still want to do it

Thanks!

so after doing some research, I think I'm just gonna do a mini-me setup, I think thats the way to go.

Actually you have a D16Y7. Is your DX a hatchback, or a coupe? Mini-me is a fine idea but you will get more performance from swapping the Y8 trans in first.

And any header you got would work on either head, VTEC or not. I would suggest doing exhaust and header at the same time and if you have a coupe or sedan get the exhaust for the EX model, then pick up a converter from/for the EX or Si. The DX exhaust leaves no room for a cat without hacking the exhaust up...even if you don't want a converter just use a test pipe then you have the option. It's not a bad idea to get a better flowing exhaust/header before doing the Mini-me either, just something to think about.

I think i'll do that. Initially, I was planning an EX build up, but the deal I got on this DX was too good to pass up. I was planning to go with a Greddy Header, part no. 10551000, and a Skunk2 Mega Power cat-back part no. 413-05-2000. To address the cat, ill probably just go with a universal and fab somthing up, unless the cat isn't that pricey (sub $200).

Thanks for the feedback!

Something I might suggest is with all the money you'll spend on that stuff plus mini-me, you could almost afford a Greddy turbo kit which will beat on a Y8 with exhuast all day long. Get a less pricy exhuast, of course it depends what you're looking for. I like a quiet one so Apexi World Sport is my bag and is often found under $400. And again, consider the Y8 tranny.

Yes it will, and likely will perform better than before also. Use the Y-series headbolts btw...
