D16Y5 Valve Cover Question....

Newbie question I realize, and apologize. My cousin just purchased a 98' Civic HX 5spd and the valve cover is broken exposing part of the cam gear and belt and I've insisted he replace it to keep the belt/gears sealed up and out of harms way. I realize it is unlikely to do any harm but he's right at 90k and I feel it would be wise to replace it and do the timing belt/pump/tensioner service and replace the broken valve cover in one fell swoop.

My question, what valve covers will fit his application besided the D16Y5 cover, any D-series? I'm having some difficulty finding one that is exactly the same according to the listings on ebay. Also if somebody does have one for sale please pm email me if you would. Not wanting this to be a 'wtb' ad.....but dont want to discount a helpful member either!

Thanks!

If the cam gear is exposed then the valve cover is not broken. Its the upper timing chain cover that is broken. Its just a plastic piece. They are fairly cheap. Any cover from any 96-00 civic will work.

No rush. He will be fine if its broken, a lot of people don't use one at all. However better to have it just to keep things clean in there.

a b16 is DOHC and he has a d16 SOHC, no way that valve cover will work.
