D16y7 intake manifold

This isnt your usual thread on swapping a y8 manifold in place of the y7.
I know that much.
I was wondering what other options i had besides that OEM auto y8 manifold?
Be it a non OEM part or whatever.
Was wondering about getting a more performance based manifold that is actually for say, the y8, but putting it on my y7.

I know that a guy from my town replaced his manifold on his y7 with a "racing manifold" and gained 33% more whp. He went from 90whp to 130 whp. The guy owns a shop and is one of the best tuners around. I dont recall what he actually put on there though.

Thanks.

Actually that is 44% more power....and I have to say that if, in fact, this performance gain is true....then unfortunately, it was not just the intake manifold that brought it about.

The most amazingly designed, ported and polished, and port matched to the head intake manifold would only probably give a stock y7 powered civic 20whp....best case scenario.

If there was computer/fuel tuning, bigger injectors, better TB, intake, exhaust and accessory removal among other things, I may believe there was a 90whp to 130whp gain, but even then I'd be skeptical unless there was some internal work.

Well im not sure if intake and exhaust was included in that. I already have an exhaust and i know that his had intake and exhaust.
There arent too many accessories to remove besides say a/c.

Well that is only like 5-7whp...where did the other 13-15 come from .

I'm not trying to say you are lying, but I think he has misled you or didn't reveal the whole story.

Getting N/A 40whp out of a y7 is a task without higher compression, head work, and a lot of tuning.

Edelbrock Performer X.....probably won't notice much out of it on a stock-ish D series.....maybe 5whp.

edelbrock performer x or try looking at skunk 2...with the intake manifold you can only gain not too much whp associate the upgrade with a polished headers...it will give you a decent whp gain from upgrading headers and intake manifold...good luck

The Y8 manifold is the best OEM flowing Manifold for the D. As far as upgrades go it is the CHEAPEST that you can get unless you go with a skunk2 or a Victor X they both run a few hundred plus. I have seen a few Ebay crappers - power gains would probably be negligable to harmful with them though. But unless your gonna drop some serious cash on a manifold I would suggest just porting the Y8 and calling it a day. Your not going to find huge gains with a intake swap unless your swapping a camshaft and some other goodies as well. After the mechanicals are in take the car to your tuner buddy and get tuned to realize the most from your combo. Remember - DYNO'S DON'T LIE. When someone starts talking about power they make ask to see the sheet - if they know the exact number they push they have a printout for it. Be skeptical if they don't - especially if your considering having them do some work for you.

you will notice a pretty big difference just from the y8 manifold. You won't be dissapointed.

Just thought of this.
With the y8 manifold, would i want a y7 or y8 intake? or does it even matter.

If you are using an OEM air intake, you'll need the EX/SI intake.
