d16y8

I have a y8 engine with a spun rod bearing from my old civic from like 3 years ago and I was trying to sell it but I got an idea and I need to know if everyone here thinks it would be a good idea...

I was thinking of forging the whole engine and building it to push 28-35 p.s.i. what you all think? I think I can turn some impressive numbers and knowing the engine I believe it will hold it... keep in mind this will be a drag car only

what it's going in is not a honda body...it's going to be rwd (yes rear wheel drive) and I haven't decided yet what it's going to be.

how do you plan making it rwd?
doesn't sound worth it to me. would be too costly.

I hate to suggest non-Honda, but a full drag D16 with that kind of boost, properly built and tuned will run you $10K or more. At least that's what others have put into motors like that. One dude on turbod16.com made 535hp with race fuel.

However, if you are doing rwd you can get a V8 crate motor for less money that makes at least that much power w/o race fiuel and has not reached it's maximum potential. Yes I know, it's passe because everybody's been doing it for decades I'm just looking at it from the "how fast do you want to go for your money?" standpoint.

I know I could build a crate engine and I know I could put it in a hatch for alot cheaper but I think it would be bad ass... Remember and if you don't I'm the guy who mated the crv trans with the b16a because I though it would be a good idea... I'm not real sure completely what I'm doing yet but I want to push around 35 p.s.i. at an average... that won't change... hell I may still sell the engine who knows just kicking ideas around... I still think that rwd would be b.a.

35psi means SHIT.its an arbitrary number. pick how fast you want to go then decide what power you will need, then turbo size for that power THEN pick the psi on the turbo .

for a 10's car you can do it just fine on vitara pistons(140 bucks) and eagle rods(300 bucks) 500 for machining bearings ect ect. this setup has been proven to hold 400+at the wheels no problemand it put a fully loaded with ac and full interior 4dr civic into the 11's. with a gutted out hatch it would be a low 10's high 9's car for under 5000 bucks in the engine+turbo+tune. you will need a pretty good size turbo probly a 50 or 60 trrim.

it's not so much the boost I wanna run it's the 9 second pass I'm worried about making... I was throwing an abitrary number out you're right because if I can hold that much atleast... then I know I can make at the very least 10's... I tune my own and I have access to a dyno that part won't be a problem..

vitara pistons... yea I was reading something on those yesterday... never heard of them I was gonna go wiseco but... if they're decent I'll use em.

have you ever ridden in a 10 second car? i havent. ive ridden in a mabye high 12 civic (ef hatch with a gsr, boltons) and that shit was insane. there were three of us in the car. knocking off 3 seconds and i cant imagine how much of a beast that would be. do you really need a 10 second car?

Before our turbo spools and blows some Honda into a stormdrain?

Just fooling with ya.

I have an old Turbo magazine with an article on the "Dirty Dozen" about the twelve quickest and fasted Hondas at that time(I forget what year...'98 or '99 I think; quickest was 10.46, fastest was Tony Fuchs with 142mph, heh). Number 12 was a D16 powered CRX making roughly 280hp and doing 10.98s. The car only weighed ~1600lbs, though(back-halfed). Nines is a pretty high goal for a 2000lb car and a stock block D16. Just for comparison, it takes on
