D16z6 Problems...

Ok, i have search and the only place i found a lil info was on honda tech, but there wasnt anything big, so i wanna try here. My girl has the 93 ex civic 5speed, anyway the problems are....

#1. Sometimes the car wont start. The info i got from honda tech is here...

Quote:
Car won't start...
-9 times out of 10 this seems to be a bad main relay. If the car won't start when it's hot in the interior, listen for the fuel pump priming (it's the sound you hear when you turn the ignition to the on position but before you actually crank it over), if you can't hear it priming this is most likely the cause. You alot of times get by with just rolling down the windows or opening the doors to cool it off and you can get it to start. This is because the main relay (little gray/black box with a brown plug going into it and mounted with one bolt) is under the dash on the drivers side behind the hood release. These tend to start showing this symptom @ roughly 10-12 yrs. After years of the solder joints in the relay heating up and cooling down with the interior temp the joints tend to seperate and make sketchy connections. They can be soldered if you are up to it or handy with a soldering iron but $55 for a brand new one from the dealer isn't too bad for 10-12 years worth of piece of mind.
Ok anyone have any other info on that? becuz i have tried putting in another main relay and it works here and there, only thing is, the other main relay i used is from a car that has sat for a few months....

#2. My next problem is that this motor has 152,000 miles and it runs good, but my problem is, that at idle it just misses a lil bit, but when u rev it up or drive it, it doesnt do it at all.....Anyway to fix this? All help will be appreciated, thanks for reading...

Have you tried www.d-series.org? They have a lot of info on that engine. Also have you checked the service manual?

I have many ideals. I don't punch women or babies for example.

But you could try adjusting your idle screw to raise it up a just few rpms. As for the starting problem, how long's it been since your last full tune-up? Spark plugs, oil change, valve adjustment, fuel filter, iacv cleaning, all that stuff. Check your grounds all over your engine bay too. Big thing that some people can overlook.

The starting problem wouldn't be tune up wise, my first post with the qoute explains it best. I have change oil, fuel filter, spark plugs....

There is no idle problem, its just that it misses while idling but dosnt have a problem staying runing.

Check your ignition timing and make sure it's spot on. Try a fuel system cleaner, it'll take a little carbon off the top of your pistons too which might be causing the miss. I still say check the condition of all your grounds. I had 1 loose and my motor wouldn't even turn, I thought it was siezed till I checked and found it.

I have done 2 3 fuel cleaner system, it does some of the job. I need to change timing belt but other than that i dont see what could be causing my problems.

But before i do that i will try the main relay and look for a ground somewhere that is causing the problem. Sorry i cant help u. I am in the same boat with almost the same miles on my car booooooooooooooooooo. gl on fixing it. Also i was told it could be the tps sensor, or the throttle position sensor on the back of the throttle body when i am facing the car. who knows i hope i fix this too it sucks.

hi, brand new spark plugs 7 months ago ngk, and wires all ngk. New pcv, new air filter, oil filter, oil, and tranny flush and refill. All done 6-7 months ago. Like i said before i was told it might be the main relay in the car and i will try changing that I guess first. Then i will maybe do the ignition cylinder and switch?
