d17 help

hey guys,

i have 01 civic with the d17a1 and was wondering what my options are. i heard that these engines are impossible to make any reasonable hp out of. i was wondering if that is true and if not, if not what are my options. i have a exhaust and header on it already, as well as cold air and underdrive pulleys. i was wondering about a turbo and also getting a vtec head from somewhere. also chipping it. i am on a budget so nothing to crazy. if i had my way id drop a k20 swap in it but to much $$$$$. id appreciate any help.

thanks guys

the motors are made for much more economical reason than the previous years civics. if course you can still buy the simple I/H/E.

a good resource would just be to go to parts sites and look at whats available. it would get obvious quickly if there were no potential at all because there would be no engine performance parts for it.

start here: www.modacar.com

and there is a site dedicated to your civic or ones that have your motor at least, www.7thgencivic.com

you will make the most power if you boost it... this site is expensive but it shows you what you can get for your car...you can just build your own turbo kit on ebay for about 1500$$...

a vtec head swap for the d17 is a little complicated, but it can be done. there are a whole lot more sensors on the a2 head than the a1 head. if you are still interested in the swap, i have a d17 vtec head and ecu that i am looking to get rid of. let me know.
