exhaust question... HEAVY DUTY MUFFLER?? WTF
I bought this car used and I was going through the receipts for this 2000 civic EX sedan. They replaced the muffler some months back, but they put a "HEAVY DUTY MUFFLER" on?! WTF... it really feels restricted.
I don't want to spend a fortune on an exhaust because I am not going for sound or anything. I want only the engine/intake sound. BUT, I do want a better performing exhaust.
Apexi WS catbacks are SUPER expensive, even still and I can't find anything for a sedan!
So, is there an offbrand or some other NICE chambered exhaust for a 00 civic ex sedan (4dr)? I will NOT do a universal muffler again. I got a universal muffler (Apexi WS) for my integra a while back, and instead of it being chambered it was straight through!! It was NOT quiet at all!!
Thanks for the ideas...

apex ws2 is ftw. but for pricewise, since you said its a bit much, i'd go with a magnaflow muffler + custom piping. should be quiet and nice :]

tell you the truth, i'd go WS2 if I waited a few months for the cash, BUT the issue is that they don't offer a civic EX 4dr version??
I am trying to find out if the COUPE WS2 would fit a 4dr. Someone said the midpipe is shorter on the sedan than the coupe? I don't get why the exhausts would be different...??

if you can't find a cat-back just build one like slow f23 suggested.. it will be cheaper than any aftermarket system worth a shit.

But again, I am wanting to know a good chambered exhaust that is relatively quiet if I do a custom exhaust...
If I do a custom exhaust, what is the piping recommendation for a civic ex?
And where can I find a good tip, something stylish and not a watermelon bazooka? haha

use a greddy sp2, apex ws2, or possibly a different gen civic's muffler.

all Apexi WS mufflers say coupe, nothing for a sedan. The RS-R ex mag I believe says it's a 2dr also. However, the tanabe medalion touring has one for a sedan... but I am trying to find out what the difference is between the coupe and sedan that makes them not fit?

longer piping for the sedan.. so if you try to put a coupe exhaust on a sedan it won't be long enough..
kapesh?

how so?
the vehicle length is exactly the same... 175.2 for a coupe and a sedan. The hatch is 164.6 and in the helms FSM, it does not differentiate between a coupe and a sedan or even a hatch for that matter in the exhaust systems?
the difference is between the d16y7 and d16y8 motors. In a d16y7 the catalytic converter is a part of the exhaust manifold, where as it is in the normal place for a d16y8. ... where is the length coming into play.. strange, should fit...

Yup. Just buy the WS muffler instead of the entire cat-back. Have a shop do the rest. MUCH cheaper.

the WS universal muffler is a straight through design and is NOT quiet. I had one on my integra. Was pissed because it was designed for all vehicles including turbos. Apexi said they don't make the WS2 universal in a chambered design. This is why I am thinking of getting the catback anyway and checking fitment. If not, then I'd just have them customize the pipe from the there.

For EX coupes and sedans the exhaust is the same, and don't buy apexi cause only the muffler is stainless steal.
