head swap

i have a 1996 civic hx i bought like 1 month ago and it had the y8 tranny but no 3rd or 5th got a new one and clutch that is being put in at this minute but i heard alot of things about the y5 head that it can make more power then a y8 or z6 but it sounds like work and alot of money so should i keep the head or swap to a y8 or z6 and if so what do i need my intake manafoild on the y5 is bigger then a 2000 si or is it junk and the y8 or z6 manafoil better?

best to swap to a y8 head. while the y5 has potential, no one has ever done any r&d to create products to make use of that potential. so save yourself some headache and go with a y8 head.

the 2000si had a b16a2. you can not use a b-series manifold on a d-series engine. stick with a y8 intake manifold.

haynes books are garbage for reference material. lots of their "facts" are wrong and based on several generations of numerous cars (eg-your book covers civics, integras, & crv's). they are a decent reference for doing simple engine work, but when it comes to the nitty-gritty, it's garbage.

i'm going to go ahead and ignore the rest of your statement after haynes

Since i don't know what mods you have I assume you have the usual bolt ons. and if the other person has any driving skill whatsoever, you wouldn't have beat him. You may have beat a bad driver, not the car.

check my profile for my car

your car has 115/104 at 2370lbs .......the Si has 160/111 at 2612lbs......even if the torque is close which it really isn't that close.....your gearing compared to the Si is nothing.
Si 1/4 time: approx.....15.6
Hx 1/4 time: approx....16.8

The car will beat your car PERIOD, like i said before thats assuming you have just regular bolt ons.
