jack up the car, use a jackstand. pop your hood, and on the valve cover (thats the top of your engine) there should be a round cap thats black and a couple inches across, undo that. thenuse a wrench or ratchet (not sure what size, id say around 14-16mm) to loosen the bolt on the black thing on the bottom of your engine (righty tighty lefty loosey ). make sure you have something underneath the car to catch the oil (i use a 5 gallon bucket but i have an suv and dont have to lift it up to change the oil, you might need to use a short pan or buy a drain bin wherever you got the oil, it should only be a few bucks. if a bunch of pitch black stuff comes out, you did it right. then find the oil filter, im pretty sure its on the back side of your block. you might need a rag or something to help you get a better grip on it because its usually pretty tight and youll probably have some oil on your hands. unscrew that lal the way (righty tighty lefty loosey just like before) put the bolt back in the black thing that all the black stuff came out of, tighten it all the way (dont tighten it too much, because the oil pan (black thing under your engine) is aluminium and youll strip it out, but just tighten it down snug. look at your old oil filter and make sure there is a black o-ring on it (kind of a rubber loop goes around the top of it) if there isnt, then it is still on your engine where you got your filter off, remove it. i like to dip my finger in fresh oil and wipe it around the o-ring (black circle thing on the new oil filter) and pour a little oil in (i think yours sits horizontally, so dont prefill it) screw it onto the block where your old one came off, tighten it as much as you can with your bare hands. grab your fresh oil and a funnel. put the funnel in that hole that you removed that first cam from and pour the oil in there. go slowly to make sure you dont overflow it and make a mess. put about 4 quarts in, put the cap back on, and drop the car back onto the ground. start the car, and let it idle for a few seconds (10 or 15 should be fine) look underneath your car and make sure there isnt any oil on the ground (that wasnt there after you drained it, this is to make sure the drain plug and oil filter are on good) check the oil level (there is a dipstick probably sticking up through the middle of your exhaust manifold, it should have low and full markings on it. make sure it is wet up to the full line, but not past it. it shouldnt be low, but if it is add a little more oil. if it was full, then close your hood and drive it around the block. check the oil level again, make sure it hasnt moved and that youre not leaking oil on your driveway. if the oil isnt low and there is no leaks, then congratulations, you changed your own oil!
now take whatever you drained your oil into and take it to your local autozone/kragen/pepboys/napa/whatever and tell them you have old oil and thell tell you where to dump it, or if you have weeds to kill in your yard, pour it there. throw away your old filter. clean up your hands so you dont get oily finger prints over all the doorknobs/lightswitches/etc... in your house, if there are any femals in said residence, they wont appreciate it
or, plan b... drive up to your local jiffy lube, have them change your oil and sell you an air filter and tell you your coolant needs replaced. in exchange for their services you will need to head to your local clinic and demand that you be caastrated because you are not man enough to change your own oil. then tell the doctor you have add and he will perscribe you adderall and then you will PM me for my shipping info and mail me said adderall since i did this uber great writeup for you but you didnt use it and went to jiffy lube anyway.
In all seriousness, its not hard to do. take your time, double check everything, and itll go fine. as for oil filters, i suggest napa gold (buy them at napa, dont get napa silver, get NAPA GOLD) oil filters, and oil is up to you. dont get penzoil, otherwise, oil is oil. and always change the oil filter, every time you change the oil. dont do one without the other. now might be a good time to check the air filter, there should be a black tube coming from your engine to the front of your car on the passenger side. im not sure, but there are probably a couple little clips holding the top piece to the bottom piece. pull those back and lift up, it should just pop right up and the air filter should be right there. pull it out, if its really dirty bang it on the ground, if its still dirty, then buy another one wherever you got your oil. if its not too dirty, put it back in, push the clips back and smile.

to make getting the oil filter off easier, especially if its a honda one (they tend to be harder to get off), get a strap wrench from sears. they are like $6.
like he said NAPA gold is great for the filter. as for oil, i use mobil1 5w-30....the normal oil not the extended life stuff.
