Intake mani swap problem
i've spent a few hours the last two days swapping my old DX mani to an EX style. first anticipated problem i've run into was the throttle cable, but I've already got a new one on order from the dealership.
Here's the problem that I cant get figured out. When i turn the key, it starts (reluctantly) and then acts as if the injectors were open, revving to redline. I havnt let it hit redline...each time i've adjusted something and turned the key again, as soon as it starts revving, i cut it off. I've tried switching the two identical plugs attached to the TB, and also turning on the car with my TB opened, hoping it was something with the TPS...no luck. I didnt notice, but my friends also said it was putting out black smoke, which they said meant it was dumping fuel. everything was working fine before the mani swap, so i'm hoping i just have something hooked up incorrectly. what'd I do? thanks in advance. and if it matters...
D16 block
y7 head
y8 style IM
Also, i'll be posting pictures as soon as they get e-mailed to me from my friend's phone.

found that on another thread...so do i need to work on my TB? I need to get this figured out before friday night, have to drive an hour for my national guard duty...and here are some pictures for you guys.

Reason: new info
Either you have a vacuum leak (a big one if it revs like that immediately) like a fitting not being connected on the manifold (Did you connect cruise control).
*Or* You need to adjust the tension on the throttle cable. Throttle cable might be too tight causing it to rev.

i managed to fix the problem before it went to the shop...had vaccuum leaks from a sensor hole on the side as well as the IACV holes on the rear that i had (improperly) blocked off. took it to a tuning shop, who happened to have a spare d16y8 laying around. they charged me $120 for the IACV, side sensor, rerunning all my coolant lines, and a new O2 sensor that i didnt ask them to fix...but hell, an O2 sensor alone would have cost me $80 from the dealership, and it needed to be replaced anyway...so no complaints from me.
now for my new problem...its drinking coolant. i replaced the IM gasket a second time with a factory gasket...no luck. im planning on putting one way valves on every hose that runs from the mani to anything coolant related, and hopefully that'll solve the problem. Any ideas there?

ok sounds like a map sensor problem i had the same dificty wen i did my swap in my y7..make sure that the hose at the bottom of the manifold is covered or rerouted to the hose fitting on the side and make sure the iacv is still good unless it was off an automatic

i think its safe to say the coolant problem has been dealt with. when i had my hand at the exhaust, i had a greasy feeling...which was the same feeling i was getting when i was burning massive coolant and throwing white smoke. but recently i drove it 2 hours to Guard training for the weekend, without a problem. thanks for the help everybody, the car's no where near dnoe, but its getting there
