im am currently building a z6 motor. im a going through tha top end first; big cam, springs n tit retainers. ive been looking around for a while for a lighter/stronger set of rocker arms but all of my search efforts came up short.. i would think that there is an upgrade at least, oem couldnt be tha best product available, is it?
I think they're aluminum ones already in the z6 motor. You're better off spending your money elsewhere. Like sending out your head for some machine work. They're light but strong enough for harder springs.
I've never actually seen an aftermarket set either to tell the truth.
good choice. good product, you get what you pay for. Boost is really the only way to get decent power out of the sohc. And a supercharger will give you that full power band you're looking for. I'm sure you've seen the dyno charts on vortech's website.
As far as mods to help the supercharger, you can get a cam specific for boost, but its not really necessary for power. You're money will go farther with tuning and fuel delivery. As well as a monitoring system like a wideband lambda gauge, oil pressure gauge, boost gauge. Tuning it to perfection will make more power than an aftermarket cam when dealing with boost. And it makes your setup more reliable, there's no lazy changing the fuel pressure to "around what it should be" lol. You change the whole fuel map. Air flow can be very tricky when compressed. You could go without a tune but there might be sections of your rpm range running too rich or too lean. And thats bad any way you look at it.
As far as rpms, its not a good idea to be combining both. You're increasing the piston acceleration and the force behind it. That means beefing up the internals, while making them lighter, which will cost you the same as another supercharger.
True. Thats why they sell cams with "recommended valve train upgrades". All valve trains are balanced as a unit. That's why i'm saying if you're going to supercharge, then stick with stock for the time being. You'll have plenty to worry about without changing the cam.
i had no idea thats tha difference in forced induction cams, low overlap, makes sense..learn sumthing new everyday! ~really n truely $$ is not a problem, only tha time ta make it is.. plus its going to be priceless when i walk on a kid with a k-swap! lol
ive already have a crower stg2cam, springs n sum titanium retainers. thats why i was curious to upgrading tha rocker arms.. like i said, i want a high revver!
RLZ Engineering made a set of lightweight rocker arms for the d-series a few yeras back. I think they were about $600. Doubt they are still available as the d-series is the little guy on the tuning block.
However I wouldn't spend my money there as the hp savings would be small and it would not do much to raise your redline because you still have a long stroke and high piston speeds to deal with.
That money could better be used on a set of lightweight rods and an upgraded valvetrain

I say forget all that boost talk rebuild the bottom end for nitrous and tune the ship out of it ! Sleeper ..good luck trying get 10,000 rpm's out of your D series.hope you got an LSD trany!
