.......okay, here we go again.....the maint reqd light on most Hondas is pre programed to go off at certain intervals. It does not mean anything is wrong with your car. It just means that some sort of lame check up is due on your car like oil change or 10,000 mile check up. If you want to turn the light off, follow these instructions carefully.
1. put key in ignition.
2. hold down your trip odometer reset button.
3. while holding down the reset button, turn your key to the ACC position.
4. continue to hold the reset button in until the idiot light disapears.
5. start your car and everything is back to normal.
this will happen alot so remember it and next time use the search button before starting a thread that has been started a 1000 times!!!!

would be good to know what car you have...

in 96-00 civics, the maintenance required light automatically came on after 7500 miles. it was basically to remind people to change their oil. There was a little slit in the gauge cluster that had a button. You could use something to press the button to reset the indicator. I just use the car key cause it fits the hole.

yea, the light just comes on at certain invervals, nothing to worry about, they should reset it when they change your oil, and if they dont, tell them to do it

but what really bugs me is after 1k miles on a brand new oil change, the light started flashing when i started the car, and for a long long time after that, it just flashed when i started, then finally mabey 3-4 weeks ago, it finally just stayed on. and i still have about 600 miles to go b4 new oil change...

forgot will become famous soon enough
So to be more clear on what everyone has been saying to ya...the maintence required light comes on at preprogrammed intervals to "suggest" certain check ups and oil changes to be done. It's not connected to any sort of diagnostic thing. The "Check Engine Light" will come on when there is a problem. Hopefully that clears up some things for ya.

you shut up, your stupid.

why would i need an oil change after 1k miles? when it should be every 5k... nothing else was wrong with my car, and thats the reason why i made this post. i know that it doesnt mean anything bad, i know the that if the engine light came on, its something to worry about. im just curious as to why it would tell me i need a oil change basicly 2 weeks after i just got one.
