Mini-Me

After reading around a lot on this I figured this is going to be a good budget build that will give me the power I'm looking for. I have a 98 civic lx, and it's my daily driver. My goal I'm shooting for is at least 150whp N/A. I want to go further down the road and do a little turbo setup but for now I'm happy with going N/A.

As far as research goes I have a good idea on what I need and how to do it after reading tons of threads and writeups on this. I have never done work to my engine besides a intake before so I still have plenty of questions.

After saying all that this brings me to my questions.
1. Can I expect to reach 150whp very easily?

2. What compression should I be looking for?

3. I want to buy new pistons, suggestions?

4. How much should I be looking to spend? Granted I'm going to try to get the head and solenoid from junked ex's.

5. Fuel Management. Should I look into upgrading this?

6. Looking forward what kind of hp would I be able to reach with a turbo on a 2,000 budget for just boosting it.

Any input will be great!!! Thanks

150 whp on a NA sohc Vtec is attainable. Mini-me it. Using a correct Vtec ECU will ensure the engine is being fed properly. Simple bolt on's will get you to 150hp if you get it tuned (exhaust/headrs/cam/pully etc..) Try to keep the CR low(Z6 head and dished pistons) The lower the better when it comes to boost. Je's are a good choice for piston - I have a friend running Wiseco's and they are holding up to 18 psi. Guess it is a personal choice as far as that goes. Just make sure they are for a low compression setup.(8:1) There are plety of threads on heare to follow on assembling your own QUALITY turbo setup for less than a grand. Just use the search function.

1) "easily" no, with some money yes. 150whp is getting up there for a d-series n/a. and no simple bolts on's won't get you 150whp. total maybe 120whp. then cam maybe another 10whp, but 8whp to be safe. then some tuning and you can get another little bit. all in all with that....about 135-140whp.

2) stock if your gonna boost, like 10:1 or so if n/a

3) JE, eagle, www.crower.com has some options

4) i spent 350 for my complete y8 head, with intake manifold and all that. 250 for the obd1 p28 ecu and obd1 conversion harness

5) fuel supply? no. tuning in some way yes.

6) anywhere from 150-200whp....depends on tuning, what turbo, how much you can do yourself.....ect

ig you do EVERYTHING your self you could have 300whp in a D.

if your brave enough to tear the WHOLE engine down and build it from the ground up.

Im doing my whole turbo setup ecu and all for around 1000 bucks.thats just the turbo stuff, the things to prep the 110K mile engine will run me another 450 bucks, rhis includes new motor mounts and ES mounts, timingbelt and water pump, fresh coolant, new clutch.
