my friend bought a mugen header and it was leaking from the welds on the header. If you're smelling a rich smell then the leak is probably before the cat.
its not a mugen header its a megan header i put on, and i checked it out and it might be leaking from the downpipe to the exhaust which is makeing a raspy sound.also i think its running rich because the gain in horse power makes it so the engine is flowing more feul into the engine causeing it not all to burn but i would like to fix it.got any ideas how to?
exhaust leak.... something isnt tight or didnt seal properly, most headers will add a bit of a raspy note, but with an exhaust leak it will be more prevalient, also you put on a header, the ecu isnt gonna recognize much of a diffrence if any

so fuckin blow those words out the back of your head, ive heard it all and im done with that shit
i looked at it today and i found out it was leaking from the downpipe to the exhaust..i tightend it, but it still has the rich smell to it. also what kind of exhaust should i upgrade to due to the increase in flow to the muffler.
so if the ecu wont most likely recognize it...then will i have to mabye upgrade it or get a remapping done to make a differenc?...
ok, so 2 questions here... Your profile says you have an HX. So when you installed this header, did you remove the cat? I thought the hx had the cat integrated into the header/manifold?
As for upgrading exhausts, its a waste of money. You have a d16y5 which runs in 12-valve mode. Upgrade because you like the sound, don't expect any power. Your exhaust is not a problem.
yea it had the cat integrated into the header, that was taken off when i replaced the header...i was going to replace the exhaust to get rid of the raspy noise...yea it has 12 valves for the economy..its more of a scientific experiment to see how much i can get out of it cuz no one has done it.
Then it smells rich because you have no cat. It's normal the cat burns off excess gas. Make sure you have ZERO leaks bacause it's poison.
"Man drives into poll, Unconscious."
A man was found dead today, wraped around a pole along with his automobile. Friends say he "just wanted a little extra power". Little did he know removing his catylitic converter would not be worth the Hp gains. Constable Mcewin said "it's a sad day for parents with kids who modify their cars. Stop the Racing". And now police are issuing inspections...(...)
i made that up. don't make it true. Get a catback exhaust for a civic without the cat in the headers, match the size to your downpipe, because it's almost surely larger diam. than stock. Which is why you can't get a seal. Either that or change the flange on your stock exhaust for a bigger one. But without a cat, you're most probably going to run into problems with your secondary o2 sensor.
that is good advice thanxs a bunch for the info and the made up story...im just going to go back to the stock header until im able to buy an exhaust with a cat on it so i dont run into the problems that can happen witht the aftermarket header...
If you get a header/cat/exhaust for an EX chassis, then you will have all of the pieces you need to run your setup properly. You will just need some o2 sensor extensions to relocate the sensors
