power gains with a y8 head??
ok so i just got a built y8 for my D16z6, this is the description by the owner of what i bought:
(start quote) :
Complete head package for d16y8 engine: This head started out as a factory d16y8 honda head, it was dissassembled and cleaned. Valve guides were found to be within factory specs., the valves were cleaned, valve seals replaced, and vavles and seats lapped. A mild port job was then done, bowls and seat areas blended and portes smoothed and cleaned. A comps cam street/strip cam was installed. crower springs and titanium retainers were then installed. All rocker arms were checked and cleared from excess wear. Head was assembled using quality assembly lube. and all fasteners torqued to factory specs. An aem truetime adjustable cam gear was installed to top of the package. includes a used vtec solenoid and switch. the only thing left to be done is install it on your block and set the valve lash.
After the assembly of head it was mocked up to a block and hand rotated a few times but since built has never been raced or run on a vehicle.
ok so since i'm kinda still a nub, what kind of difference will i see compared to my stock D16z6 head? btw i got a crappy homemade intake, and DC headers, and running a P28 ECU, also if anyone has any tips on things that i will need with the installation it would be much appreciated, also does the z6 valve cover fit on the y8??? any help, tips, info would be greatly appreciated - - and of course pics will be due when i get it.. CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!!

I don't think you will notice too much with that head.
If, for instance, you had a high compression, high revving N/A set up or a high pressure turbo set up, a lot of these things would be necessities....not 'upgrades' in terms of performance. So if you have much higher aspirations for this motor than jump on it, but if you will keep it moderate with bolt ons etc, I wouldn't bother spending the money on this head.

not much difference? dang... but ya i was hopeing to build it moderately powerful, keep it reliable and after having worked on the engine a bit i'll end up going with a turbo,.. theres nothing like beating a guy then saying all i got is a 1.6liter SOHC engine but you got no estimates on power? would 160whp be possible? or that too much? thanks dudes

With just the head and i/h/e?
You might be lucky if you pull 90-95whp .
160whp will require new internals and cam and fuel system and tuning etc not to mention $$$ if you want to stay N/A or a very mild turbo system....no intercooler necessary for 160whp. I'd definitely do some suspension upgrading if you plan to do this.....or do it first before the turbo.

ok well, i dunno mabye if its me but, first: stock the motor has 128hp, i don't know how much whp that is but its probably higher then 90-95whp right?? also my first post says that the y8 head will come with AEM cam gear, Comp street/strip cam shaft and Crower springs/retainers, with head having a mild port job also done... all for 90-95whp? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? then i have no idea what to do....

With a ported head + cam, you will probably pick up ballpark 10-12whp. It would take much more work like an aggressive cam, intake manifold, custom header, high cr pistons, etc. to approach the 160whp mark.
Kommonsense, a stock z6 puts out 105whp? A stock y8 puts out high 90s maybe 100whp if I'm not mistaken so I assumed that Honda wouldn't have gone backwards with power from generation to generation .
