tech wrench project help

My dad and i decided we were going to do a civic project car and want to know were to start. We decided we liked the d16z6 head because my brother has an 95 ex with one and its pretty quick for being almost stock. (tops out about 130mph and with no traction runs a low 17). would it be better(cheaper and easier) to go with a d15b block and do a mini me swap building it from scrap out of the junkyard or to buy a complete motor????? We plan on making it a weekend racer and daily driver, a for fun car.

For the body i like 92-95 civic coupe and hatch back, i know the hatchback is lighter but is there any comfort in it for the daily driver part?????

Now i want it to go fast but my dad doesn't want it to be really loud so i opted for a cheap turbo to quiet it down and still be fast. Is it easy to get a stock mistsu t25, manifold, and down pipe converted to fit a civic, then buy the intercooler new from ebay or something, and will it be cheaper than buying a new turbo kit.(remember these are probaly going to be junk yard parts.) This project will be a cheap project. please help us were to start, thank you. :eek

I think that the coupe looks a little more sophisticated, but the hatch has all of the same creature comforts as the coupe. Just for a daily driver make sure that you plan for power steering and air conditioning. I'd recommend doing some of the simple things like :

- stock civic ex or gsr front swaybar
- stock gsr rear sway with gsr rear lower control arms
- stock integra front strut tower bar
- stock gsr front/rear brakes with booster, master cylinder, prop valve, etc.
- d16z6 motor with chipped p28 with uberdata
- rebuild the z6. arp head studs, new bearings, new rings. consider a block guard
- buy a transmission rebuild kit from www.gearspeedinc.com or www.sms-products.com
- plan for new shocks/springs and replacing worn bushings (which will be most of them)

don't forget that no matter how mild or street friendly you plan to make your build, you are still building a car that is *AT LEAST* 12 yrs old.

T25 turbo is pretty small, might restrict your top end a bit.

Good Read

since your gonna build your own kit, read that. Its pretty informative.

Good Luck!

ya, you can find a better turbo than that, I suggest something like a 16G TD04

you can't properly rebuild a turbo yourself and you shouldn't buy a used turbo without plans to rebuild it. problem is you have to spin/balance the shaft at 10000+ rpms. Thats hard to do in your garage Check out :

www.majesticturbo.com for rebuilt turbos.

tech wrench

when doing the "mini me" swap the best way to go would be a d15b block, d16z6 head, with a d16y8 manifold. right, if not what would be?????????????
