Parts or parts and labor?

How complete of a rebuild? Just the shortblock? The head too? OEM spec or aftermarket stuff?

depends on much you do yourself. and how youre gonna rebuild it. I had someone else rebuild the bottom end b/c I didn't have time to do it all right now. I get it back then have him rebuild the head. when that done I'll complete the build. i'll probaly end up giving him about 1000 for labor. but I'm not building mine back to stock either. if rebuilding back to stock its porbaly gonna be cheaper to get another engine. now if you had like a k20 or h22 I would say it would be cheaper to rebuild it. but our little engines are a dime a dozen. I rebuilt a saturn motor with all new parts for about $800 and did all the labor myself. so i would say about 600 doing all the labor yourself with all new parts, back to stock

If thats the case, I would just find a used motor with under 100k miles. You should be able to pick one up for under $350. I bought a used B18B this summer for my 91 teg, and it was only $385 shipped. Then you can swap them out. If youve never done a swap, I can help you out by walking you through it- its not that hard to do, and the only specialty tool you really need is an engine crane.

If you have a shop do your swap, it will run you about $800-1000 for labor. Its not that difficult to do, its just time consuming. A solid weekend, a few brews, and some buddies, and you should be all set.

Well a B-Series swap would be pretty involved, and not budget friendly. I was just using the B18B as an example, as Im a B-Series guy. You want to look for another D16y8 or a D16z6. Youll be looking for a longblock, no tranny or anything. Then swap over the tranny and everything else onto the new motor. If you can, try to find a motor that the seller can provide recent compression or leak down numbers, or recent work done on it. Look on Honda-Tech, there are always tons of motors for sale on there. How much car experience do you have? Im a strong believer that anyone can do a motor swap with enough patience, but having some auto knowledge is never a bad thing. I didnt know much about cars at all when I did my first swap, and we didnt have a problem. Ive now done 4 swaps, all successfully. Youll learn a lot, and you always have sho here to help. My most recent swap was the most difficult, because it was the first automatic transmission swap ive done, and SHO (especially Teg Tech) helped me out along the way HUGELY.

Well its your call. A D-Series will definetly be easier, especially if its your first swap. If you decide to go B, youll need:

Engine
Tranny
Clutch
Mounts
Axles
Header
Intake
Half shaft
ECU
And other misc stuff.
