Regular tune up for my d16y8

Hi all, got a 99 civic Si (canadian), I bought it in October and it runs like a champ, has 232,xxx km's on it, but runs strong. It is starting to get warm out, and in about a month I want to do a full tune up on it. I'd like to do it myself to learn about my car and save on labour. I searched the boards for tune ups, but all I could find were performance tunes.

Anyways, since I'm looking about a month away I wanna start buying everything. I know the standar, wires, plugs, cap and rotor, but what else should I replace. The timing belt was done at 200,000km, oil is changed less than 3000km's, I just want to make sure it lasts.

Not sure how much full tune ups usually run, but I am budgeting (guessing) the $500-$700 range, figure if I spend the cash now I won't have to in the future. If it costs me less great, if more well then so is life, lol.

So I guess my questions are what should I replace/check, where are good places to order from, good brands, how much should I sepnd, and last, how hard will it be? I like the engine in my civic much more than my last car, it had a v6, wires everywhere and very unorganized, where as my lil d16 is nice, clean and seems simple.

Thanks for all your help every1, and if I did miss a sticky or thread (which is very possible, lol) please don't flame but just point me in the right direction, lol. Thanks all

Oh ya, good place to buy wheel and tire packages? I'm looking for 17' white rims w/ rubber. Wanted bronze but my car isnt fast enuff for them:P haha

- transmission fluid
- flush radiator
- clean or replace air filter
- adjust valves
- bleed brakes and inspect pads (replace if necessary)
- check air in tires
- change fuel filter
- get a bottle of fuel system cleaner (either redline or gumout regane complete fuel system cleaner)

Shouldn't cost more than $100-$150 to do a *complete* tune-up yourself.

How long has it been since you replaced your timing belt?

You can overhaul the bushings and ball joints to make your car handle like new.

as stated, timing belt was done a 200,000km, now I'm at 232,xxx km, from what i've been told it should be fine.

What about spark plugs, wires, cap & rotors? I would assume they should be replaced as well? Anything else? thanks a lot guys, im gonna go shop for some rims, how does 17" white 6 spoke on red Si sound? I think it will be a clean look, any brands to get, or to avoid?

Yeah, the parts kommon_sense mentioned were in addition to plugs, cap, wires, and rotor. You should really consider replacing your bushings and upgrading the suspension if it is stock.

I'm also a fan of not only bleeding your brake system, but flushing it completely with new fluid (clutch too). Regardless of how high a quality brake fluid you use and how well sealed the system is, it will take on approximately 2-4% water in 2 years which is not good for a hydraulic fluid.

I read a statistic that 60-75% of cars on the road that are over 5 years old still have the original brake fluid in the system....not good. Especially considering the high percentage of accidents caused by unexplained brake failure (ie water vapor pocket collapsing during an act of intense braking only only for that vehicle to show perfectly operating brakes after the police report has been written up and the hydraulic fluid has cooled).

cool, thanks guys, some of this stuff is over my head, so I may be looking to get a shop to do some of the stuff. Rocker arm sleeves, suspension parts, stuff loke that I'd prefer a shop to do, bleeding the brakes I think I can do, and then cap, rotor and plugs are easy enough.

What kind of suspension parts should I be looking at? Previous owner lowered it on coil overs, but the camber is out, so I'll prob need front camber kit, and then I think I was told I can just use spacers for the rear? If not I'll need a camber kit there too. Any ideas?
