I just installed a throttle body spacer in my Civic. I reconnected everything and when I started the car, it idled at about 2K rpm. After about five seconds, the idle began oscillating between 1 and 2K rpm. I drove it around for about ten minutes and seems to be fine while driving, but it still oscillates when idling. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
OK I took the spacer out and reset the ECU. Throttle still pulses. Someone had posted in another forum about performing an "idle relearn". Anyone have any idea what this is and how to do it? I can't find any info...
Yesterday I took off the IACV and cleaned the hell out of it. When I put it back on, I still had the idle bounce. I bled the coolant and refilled the overflow and ran it for about twenty minutes. Still same problem. Then I took the 2P connector off of the IACV and the idle dropped to about 1500 rpm and bounced less. Driving to work this morning was real fun! Vacuum hoses are all good. I've got a new gasket on order. I'm hoping this will fix it because the gasket that came with the spacer looks suspect. Any other input?
BTW I looked through the stickies and couldn't find anything on "idle relearn" or "idle learn".
nevermind the btw. I found the reset procedure in the stickies.
How did you end up making out? Did you notice any differences with this spacer? Was it worth it in other words?
Thanks

Don't waste your money. I still have a throttle pulse after removing the spacer. Not sure what's causing the pulse, but I think the spacer blocked the inlet for the IACV and tore it up. The gasket kit that came with it was also suspect and I am awaiting a new gasket to see if the gasket is causing the pulse. If not, I'll have to replace the IACV to the tune of about $180. So, in a nutshell, I am definitely NOT HAPPY with my spacer! Search the Civic forum for throttle body spacer if you decide to try one. I wish I had before I bought mine.
well, i wouldn't waste $180 if the problem is still there after you removethe spacer. i'd recommend getting it diagnosed if you are unsure about what's going on.

Oh, I'm not using the spacer. I don't think the holes line up properly even though NOPI assured me that this is the spacer for my engine. I'm chalking it up to money poorly spent on a valuable learning experience.
