Turbo Project done....240whp, 7psi !!!

Just thought I'd let you Civic guys now. My buddy just got his Turbonetics T3/T4 build tuned with Uberdata.

Baseline was 167whp, 175wtq
End result was 239whp, ~210wtq.

No CELs, no issues, running like a dream, sounds awesome. Can hardly hear the BOV, its all turbine blade.

Only running on a 6.5-7psi wastegate spring. He's going to grab a boost controller later on.

I'll post some pics/vids/dyno sheets soon...I have new respect for the D!

stock internals?

somepeople just get really lucky and be able to push all the way up to 280whp with stock internals...maybe it's just one of those monster motors from factory

Yeah, I was suprised when my friend was running like 10-12 lbs on his stock z6 in a '93 Si. It would pull so hard once it spooled like a moderate size t3, (my friend had a .42/.48 t3) and even that pulled hard, even back in the day when everyone was still running like extra injectors and fmu's, it ran awesome and its still running today at like 6-7psi, i'm pretty sure

Yea, stock internals, both top and bottom. He tried the forum thing, he didn't quite stick to it. I think his name was Civic97Si or 97CivicSi. He asked a few questions about injectors and stuff.

Hella strong Y8 motor he has. The two tuners that were working on it were just awesome. Finding that much power, and at an incredibly safe A/F map. He could bang on this thing all day.

The tuner has a 430whp Z6, and had stock internals for a long time revving to about 8 grand....with a 150 shot. (His 4th gear dyno run from 50mph was about 3 seconds long )

All in the tune. We went through about 10 runs, with 10 different chip burns on Uberdata. Each time, we worked on about a range of 1000rpm leaning it out appropriately.

Started out at 10.2 A/F, poured in the fuel to make the dyno runs safe, leaned it out a bit, and then enriched it back up per RPM range where we saw it the A/F dipping too low.

Well, it's not all in the tune, although obviously that is the key to any setup working it's best. But for pure power production, using the proper turbo is also critical. 7psi from one turbo can produce drastically higher power than another turbo, and for a wide variety of reasons.

Of course. An ebay brand turbo is going to make half the power that my buddy's Turbonetics T3/T4 made. I think its a .62 trim.

What octane and timing was the tuning done with? Because regardless of the turbo setup, a 130whp increase on a stock D16 with only 7psi is an extreme feat.

Umm, it's about 80,000 miles. It's totally stock, new plugs were put in at the dyno. The engine has never been apart. He's using 91 Octane. Not sure on the timing, I was just glancing at the Uberdata program when he was adjusting the A/F, and then at the end setting all the rev limits and such.

The tuner said at max, the boost may have crept to 8psi, but it's definately a 7psi spring in the wastegate. He's grabbing radials and boost control soon.

I just got a ride in this thing, and it made me weak in the legs when I got out. Hardly any noticeable lag, and each gear it just pulls harder and harder. We actually managed to find an older Viper, and the guy driving it had to give my buddy some respect cuz we kept up with that beast at freeway speeds. We slowed down at like 75mph, I'm sure he was just about to rip us apart, but 'twas still fun.
