vtec head question

i came across a vtec head and it is now sittin in my garauge..

but someone told me that i could buy a vtec controller instead of a whole new ecu and it would work

is that true?

apexi VAFC or VAFC 2
yes it will work.

lets you mess with the air fuel
and when you want vtec to engage
i think it does more but i know it works

so i wouldnt have to get a new ecu ?

all i would have to do is hook that up and vtec would work?

the apexi vafc would take care of what your pcm would do.
engage vtec. adjust air fuel ratio.
no you dont have to get a new pcm.
you can keep the old one.
put it this way.
my buddy had a ls/v punched to a 2.0
runnin a p05 pcm. 1.5 non vtec pcm.
bought a vafc and was runnin mid to low 13s all day.
car was stolen unfortunately.

i forgot to add. you should know what you are doing with the air and fuel ratios before you go richin it out or leaning it out too much.

if your not knowledgeable in the air fuel ratios then id say get a vtec ecu or get the vafc but find some one to tune it
but i think it would work right out of the box without touching it.

it's bad because a vafc cannot control every aspect of the ecu
