yay or nay knock sensor

i have a 97 civic ex with a d16y8, yes a big piece of junk in my opinion, would it be good to run without a knock sensor, i accidently broke it and need a new one, what would you guys think? im debating buying one or not.
i havent had one in about a week and i know that it adjusts ur timing accordingly. would u have one or not, would it hurt my engine or not?

not having doesn't "hurt" the motor, but vtec will not work without it. pre 96 civics didn't have them but they were made not to.

but IMo i'd buy a new one to have your car running like its supposed to. and the safety of knowing that it will help correct timing issues.

If you don't have emissions testing in your area, it would cost the same as a new sensor to buy a P28 OBD1 ecu and a conversion harness. Then you wouldn't require the knock sensor anyhow. Otherwise I suggest buying a used one from Ebay or whatever, to keep everything running right.
