10 psi on a SOHC anyone is it safe

Thinking about upping my boost from 8 psi to 10 it will be well tuned retarded timing underboost and plently of fuel also I can run race gas. Would this be the stupid thing to do for an everyday driver? Anyone done this and had there motor last a couple of years? Standard Internals my setup is in the signature. Thanks

10psi won't be a problem as long as you manage your fuel and tuning you'll be straight. and of course regular maintenance. your engine will outlast your turbo if care is given.

peeps with f-max kits run 10psi daily on stock. i've ran it here and there but the rod strength concerns are not the most important at that psi. it's fuel.

I have installed a turbo on a '98 civic with upgraded injectors, fuel pump, and fuel management system. Also was intercooled. So far he has gone about 25,000 miles (does a ton of driving) and has not had any problems. I believe that and intercooled turbo kit with a fuel management system would do you just fine without the rest of the stuff. Never installed one though with just management so I don't know if the stock fuel system can handle it. I'll see if I can get a hold of the guy with the turbo I installed so you can ask him how he likes it.

I wouldn't bother with a block guard at 10 psi. I would however watch your timing and fuel very closely. The first thing that will go on a SOHC is the rings. If you get any kind of prolonged detonation the rings will be shot in no time. Just get it tuned and be a bit on the safe side even if you ahve to sacrifice a few hp...

Read the posts I made in this threadOthen then ignition and FMU what mods are needed for 7psi daily driving? about setting your car up to run 10psi safely on a sohc. Its called the afc hack(well its not really a hack anymore if you do it the way I describe it) but check it out its very useful stuff

Thanks for your replys I have a much better tuning device then a AFC, called a Turbo link it has its own map sensor, retards timing under boost, and adds more fuel using 3 extra injectors. I was just speaking to the tuner and he said that I won't have to get it retuned to run more boost say's the turbo link will see the extra boost and add fuel accordingly it was originally tuned for 7psi. So I might go and get myself a manual boost controller
