I'm planning on swapping a B18b into my civic and also plan on turbocharging it. I've searched and searched and Rev-hard seems to be what everyone recommends for the LS engine so I'm pretty sure that is what I'm going to go with. I'm planning on running 7-9 psi on the street and 11-15 at the track. What I need to know is what all needs to be upgraded engine wise for me to accomplish this and still have everyday reliability.
I've read about internals from crower and JE, I've even seen the stroker kits from crower, which seem to come with everthing(with a price of course). How would a stroked honda/acura engine hold up to boost or is that more for NA type stuff?
And then there is also the ignition/spark/timing issue. And fuel management too...what do you guys recommend. What do I have to have and what can I live with out. I'm new to this, I've read up and done some research, but the time is near and I'm getting up the financing, so now I need some "one on one" advice.
I decided to post this in the Civic forum also to maybe get some more eyes looking at it and go ahead and get some responces...sorry for the repost for those of you who have already seen it.
I'm impatient....I need responses...must...have....re..sp..on..ses hehe
The B18B is a good choice of motor to turbocharge and the Revhard Stage 2 kit is a very good choice. As for your goals, if you are planning to run 11-15psi at the track you will definitely need to upgrade the internals if you want the motor to last. I recommend, (but not totally necessary), resleeving the block with ductile iron sleeves. Then go with Crower rods, or Eagle rods, which are a lot less expensive and will easily hold 15psi, and then throwing in some 9.0:1 compression forged pistons from JE or Arias. As for engine managment I'm running the Hondata and highly recommend it. It works great and is fairly inexpensive compared to other systems. In order to run the Hondata you will have to upgrade your fuel injectors to either 440cc/min. or 550cc's. If you decide to go with the Hondata for engine managment, make sure you have an authorized dealer and tuner near your home. I hope this helps.
things you'll need, besides obvious things such as turbo, BOV, etc.
new clutch to handle the added power and tq.
one step colder spark plugs (NOT platinum) gapped appropriately walbro in-tank fuel pump
rc550 injectors
standalone engine management system (I recommend Hondata)
3" exhaust piping with a nice, free-flowing muffler such as N1
new pistons (decide on a c.r. ya wanna run at) (JE, Arias, or Endyn)
also, get an FMIC
there's probably a couple little things I left out, so anyone else feel free to add in.
good choice on engine, ThePerfctCrack. The B16A2 is a great engine to boost as well, but will cost ya a couple grand more (approx.) You'll be happy with an LS tho, it's great in part due to the stock c.r. and the nice torque is always welcome.
Some one said that hondata only worked on obd-1. I read alittle about it in the past and don't remember reading this, but it could be possible. I see that you are obviously obd-2, so you would have to convert if its true about hondata.
As far as fuel management, doesn't some of the revhard and drag 3 kits come with something. Like injectors and fuelpump plus some sort of afc type deal. I've went to their websites in the past and read and read and read. However I don't remember everything...it al starts running together in my head(drugs are bad ummkaaay).
One thing I'm really interested in is the stroker kit from crower....it comes with damn near everything internal and increases displacement too. Its really expensive and probably not an option for me due to the price, but I would still like to know what everyones educated opinion is on this and a turbo combo.
I had planned on getting a clutchmasters stage 2 or 3 because they claim a "closer to stock feel"
Gotta go for now...at work and the big guy just walked in...
i just had my b18b swapped in at a local shop switched my odb-2 to odb-1 for the ls.. NOT CAT AND MY tanabe is mad loud.. st00pid runs 20psi on stock LS internals for a while now using a hondata 4... all about the tunning from what ive heard him say. ILL BE doin 10 at the max which the ls is capable of with msd, SAFC and dsm 450cc injectors which i got for 100$

Yes, you will have to convert to OBD1 if you plan to use the Hondata.
As for the pump and regulator setup for fuel delivery inlcuded in the Drag 3 and Revhard turbo kits, this is NOT the proper way to increase fuel delivery due to extremely high fuel pressures. And at 11-15psi, forget about it, you'll have to upgrade to bigger injectors. The proper way to add fuel for your turbo is to run stock or near stock fuel pressures and run the proper size injectors for your horsepower application.
As for the the clutch, the ClutchMasters Stage 3 is a good choice, but I'd seriously recommend the Stage 4 if you plan to boost 15psi.
In regards to the Crower stroker kit, unless your going balls to the wall and you've got the money, it's not worth it. But yes it is very compatible with a turbo application .

What do you need? Fuel, spark, and tuning. Screw building up the internals like you are trying to go out and run 9's. Pointless...absolutely completely pointless. Get yourself some 550cc's, an in tank, maybe a fuel rail, some ignition crap, and a standalone. Then, buy yourself a spare B18B block for a couple hundred dollars, and have a good time knowing you saved $4,000.
