Air filter for turbo - Honda Forum / Acura Forum

I've seen and heard around that you don't need to use an air filter with a turbocharger. Is this true? If so, will a cold air intake to the turbine help power gains? If not, doesn't dust and stuff go to the engine. Thanks.

some people use a filter...some people place a piece of screen over the compressor housing...either way if you are able to get some sort of piping leading into a filter that would be the best idea...it'll help from dirt etc from getting into your turbo

No filter on a drag car is one thing, but only a retard would go without one on a street car. Over time, dust and debris can wear away the blades of the compressor and throw it out of balance or even break pieces off....pieces that go into the engine. Suck up something big and it instantly destroys the turbo.

def. use a filter, if you have the room of course, many do not because there simply is no room left for the filter...

running without one is asking for trouble, definitely use one.

its like running an N/A car without one on the streets. get the filter. save the turbo. save the engine. a $50 investment can save you $100+ on repairs once a big clump of dirt, rock, etc enters your engine. :eek:
