the car is a 1998 civic dx hatchback with an auto

my friend wants to do an engine swap but keep the auto, so i said a b18b turbo would be good.

what turbo kit?
what all is needed with the motor to install?
approx cost for everything?
what else will he need for turbo?
any fuel or ignition parts?
level 10 tranny?
what kind of hp?
what kind of 1/4?

anything else you can think of, thanks

you might want to think twice about turboing that car... especially with an auto tranny

why? i thought the b18b's were excellent for turbo w/ their low compression.

OK probably about half of this is wrong but I'm trying to get a B18C1 bottem end built and put in my Si.

Well if you're swapping motors you may want to build a custom kit. I've seen a Drag Gen 3 kit with a Hondata Stage 2 w/boost makeing 290 to the wheel. I'd lean toward the GT25 or GT28 turbos spool very quick and make a nice amount of power.

The engine shoud bolt right in.
You may need different mounts but I think bot the Si Chasis and the DX chasis use the same mounts. So basically no idea here.

As for the cost it depends on:
a) How fast you want to be.
b) How long you want the engine to last.

I'd say you're looking at about $5k in parts and about $1k worth of installation for a B18B swap and Drag kit install.

Either way get some 550cc injectors and a Hondata Stage 2 w/boost.

You'll need an LS tranny. Most of the parts between a given series of blocks is interchangable. B16, B17, B18, B20 etc. The D series trannies won't mount to a B series block.

You'll need to add:
Manual Boost controller (the digital ones are nice but in the beginning you probably don't want the urge to blow the engine)
Tial Blow off valve (largest valve available, does it's job better than any other)
Downpipe
HKS exhaust manifold

This brings up a good point, that I forgot to consider. The GT series manifold I have is made by HKS for the B16A series Head they make manifolds for other heads but some use a T3 flange in which case you'd have to go with that turbo.

Belts for the engine
Cam Gears (easier to install with the engine out)
You'll probably also want a 255 lph fuel pump.
Fuel Pressure Regulator (1:1)

That should hold you over. Again there is more stuff but personally here is what I would suggest instead of all this.

1) Buy a GSR engine
2) Swap it in.
3) Save your DX engine for a rainy day.
4) Go out and have some fun with that under your hood.
5) When you have the urge to drop $3k go build a turbo kit (manifold, pipeing,i/c,turbo,downpipe,exhaust,injectors and hondata)
6) Enjoy that
7) When the engine blows swap the old motor back in.
8) Drop around $4-5k on new sleves (close deck design), 84mm pistons and strong rods. You now have a basically a B20.
9) Have fun
10) You should now be throwing down 11's with slicks at around 15-18psi
11) If this doesn't do it for you. Buy a Supra, for about $1000 more than the cost of the car you'll be in the 12's. For around the price you just pumped into the Civic, you'll be in the 10's.

Just my advice. I like Honda's and they can be fast but at some point you just gotta say this is all it's gonna be without spending too much. How much is too much....that's your call.

MAn that's some good motivational speech. I've only had the turbo for about 3 months. Already, I feel slow again. Once DSM brings over the EVO VII, I'll be lining up to buy one.
