black smoke while boosting?

it is not on my honda but it happens to my toyota solara. Today when i driving passby my friend's car (at that moment it was boosting at 2psi only with AC on, but i set it at 9psi with my profec e01) and he called my cellphone to inform me that my car was shooting out some black smoke.

so i tried few more times and it proved that there is no no smoke visible while i was crusing, but there are some black smoke while i was boosting.

thanks

Black smoke usually indicates a rich condition, it's unburned fuel.
Check your tuning.

You're running rich because you were only boosting 2 psi? If you're tuned for 9 pounds then of course its gonna run alittle rich at 2 psi. :napoleon:....idiot..just messin' with ya' though. If your car is tuned for 9 pounds, then running anymore or anyless will cause lean/rich conditions.

BurntRubber87,

dont speak of which u have no knowledge. sure so if i'm tuned at 20lbs then i can only run 20 . when a tuners tunes a car they tune up to that point. so basically if i get tuned to 12lbs then i'm tuned from -27" to 12lbs. i dont know any tuner that only tunes a certain psi and doesnt tune the cells before that.

That was a good one!!!

Well, aren't turbocharged cars suppose to run rich? I mean, isn't it a given cus when you're pushing the car, then the turbines are spinning like hell. All the turbo cars that iv'e seen, just run rich and they are tuned. Plus isn't it just as bad when a turbo car runs lean?? I mean its serious problems for the motor. I believe a N/A engine could survive a lil running lean, but its murder
for a turbo car to do so. You're only running 2psi and black smoke is coming out. WTF?!?!?! thats hardly any boost. If you were running at least 12 or so, then i would understand the smoke issue. Be happy that its not backfiring at least. I rode in a friends turbo car(240 sx with SR20) that backfired. It was actually pretty damn funny to look in the sideview mirror and see this ball of flame come out. Also the fact that it kept pissing him off made me laugh too

LOL...
Yes they are supposed to run rich...
Rich as in 12:1 A/F give or take a couple points...
Do u know why it would be "murder" for a turbo car to run lean??
Because of detonation and pre-ignition; look it up online for a good explanation, or search in thse threads, I'm sure it's been posted a hundred times already...

Here are a couple hints...
-black smoke = fuel/rich condition
-white smoke = coolant burning/head gasket leak
-blue or blueish-gray = oil burning...
that's it... If ur car smokes at all, then it's one of these problems...
