Blowing white smoke out from exhaust - what could this mean?
Hey guys i finally got my car back!!
Had piston rings and forged pistons put in not too long ago...
Pretty hot day today and i had driven my turbo prelude for about an hour. then stopped by to pick up something, then when i put the ignition to the ON position, the temp guage read above normal. then when i started the car, it went back to normal. anyway i drove the car lightly all the way home, when i got home, the turbo timer keeps the car running for about 30secs...
When i got out the car, i noticed the car was puffing out a fair amount of white smoke (no blue tinge) from the exhaust when idling.
Also, when i was driving the car, i noticed sometimes i had to press the brake pedal further down to get the car to stop, so i put the handbrake on and pumped the pedal a few times to get the pressure back... this is strange, cos i had my brake fluid flushed not too long ago, and changed the discs.
Also, whenever I let off the accelerator, i heard quick pop, pop, pop, pops from the exhaust... running rich or lean here?
Is there something up with the cooling/coolant system? What should i check for? All fluids are topped up...

When you decelerate and hear popping, you are running lean. White smoke denotes water or coolant. Could be a leaky or broken head gasket, cracked sleeve, etc...PROBABLY not, because you were able to drive it still, but I would have it checked out.

Doesn't that mean too rich or engine too cold (and headers too hot)? (Too much water, too cold a spark plug etc)
he needs to check the sensors and fuel system then if nothing, check the catalytic converter and air injection system
the point is to have HC and CO burn in the catalytic con. not in the muffler
i doubt it has anything to do with coolant because the engine was running for a long period of time without anysigns except for smoke
dont try to be a badass and play with everything, go to a shop with an exhaust gas analyzer...................
also if there is alittle bit of water coming from the muffler, it would insure you that the catalytic con. is fine

Blown head gasket!
Coolant in chambers as mentioned before.. Take Downpipe off and check. Also- take a look at the coolant resevoir- is it brown or any darker than it was before you noticed the problems?? If so, there is oil in ur coolant. You could have Possibley cracked one of your cylnder walls. check all your plugs and get back to me on what they look like!!
