Boost Question (stuck on 10lbs.)

This question is for a friend of mind who just installed his Drag turbo kit utilizing the Deltagate wastegate. He says it kicks ass but there's one thing. He can't get the boost to go below the 10lb. reading on his autometer boost gauge. He says it doesn't spike above 10lbs. but just can't get it to be set below 10lbs. He told me he even tried unscrewing the screw on the wastegate almost all the way. Is he going about this all wrong? Should he be tightening it instead of unscrewing the wastegate screw? Thanks for any help he can get.

you mean even when he's idling it reads 10psi?

what is his boost gauge vac. source?

btw - using a Deltagate is asking for trouble (i.e. blown engine). Tial is the way to go.

Question about that screw on the wastegate. Will turning that affect boost? Tightening does what? Loosening does what? He has the TurboXs dual boost controller, but it's not hooked up yet till he solves this question. Will the boost controller be able to lower the boost pressure? I gotta ask him if it's a steady 10lbs. or only at full boost and whats his vacuum reading at idle. Thanks.

yes the screw will affect boost.
only about 2-3psi though

when its loostened it makes less psi
you get more boost when its tightened.

yeh this may be OT but deltagates are cheap pieces of Sh!t and i have heard many horror stories of people with them seriously messing their cars up...not saying that this happens to everyone but better safe than sorry

Have you got the wastegate connected to the nipple off the turbo, if you have then move the wastegate sorce to the intake manifold, this should give you a few xtra PSI.

twofacedsir!
if it is connected to the intake mani, try connecting it directly to the nipple off the turbo, should loose a few psi.

A boost controler can only higher boost by bleeding off some of the wastegate's supply so it opens later. It cant lower boost coz that means it would have to force air into the wastegate to get it to open up early..

HTH
