I am just trying to get a definite answer is it a good idea to boost in 4th and 5th. I may get car back from tuning today so I need to know. Running 8 psi on a sohc. Thanks for any help
We'll I've boosted all the way to 5th gear a couple of times. Even bounced of the rev limiter once in 5th gear racing a bike on the highway! Although I have a fully built motor and head which can handle this. I did this on 8lbs, although after I finish tuneing it with my AEM and up my rev limiter to 9500 then I will do it again at 15lbs! Although I do not recomend it if your motor is not fully built and tuned!
Good luck!
you shouldn't have problems boosting in 4th or 5th gear. What setup do you have? Let me know if i can help. =) later

Sorry pic is so big, my GF can't shrink it cuz she says that you can't use HTML here.
They're the only gears I really do boost in...It's nice not having to drop gear to pass people on the highway. Boost in first and second gives me to much tire spin

Undarated my setup is my signature, I have stock internals . How about if I put it like this... 4th what rpm would you boost to all the way to redline or what, and 5th what rpm would stop boostin at. Keeping reliability in mind! I basically want to know whats the limits are for safe boosting. Thank you for the replys I take it you can go to redline in the other gears?
i have boosted from a stop all the way to the end of 4th. BUT!!! i warn you, that is very fucking dangerous. While you're boosting, you're building up tremendous amounts of heat and putting alot to strain on your internals. Especially stock d16 internals. I've watched my EGT climb as high as 1500 degrees F. Im really not gonna do that ever again. Im glad i didn't blow my head gasket. I didn't wanna run that far but i was racing this one hatch with the same setup that i had and we were pretty much even all the way but then i felt my car started to pull away so i kept going until i was about 1 car length ahead. But if you're were just talking about already being in 4th gear and boosting, i think you would be ok to boost through most of it into 5th, but why the hell do you wanna be boosting for so long?? I never boost anymore. I can drive and drive for miles without boosting, just gotta be light footed. Except when you kinda miss hearing your turbo spool and the BOV go off, then you freaking punch it and ZZzzZZZZZZ ssssspppppppppphhhshstttttttt =)

i think that is around 100mph not sure though, but i can go all the way up to 100 without even boosting. I can't really answer that question because it's really all on your car and how it's maintenanced. YOu really need to upgrade or cooling system cuz temps will get very hot. If you have an EGT gauge, just keep an eye on it.

Ok It has nothing to do with what gear your in or how fast your going. The only thing you need to be carefull of is boosting for long periods of time.I generally try not to keep it boost for more then 20seconds.Thats more then enough to make a pass and more then enough to pass another car or shut the other driver up.I acually boost more while on the freeway because for one i know my intercooler has planty of cool air flowing through it and i don't like to downshift so boost + 3,500rpm's (in 5th gear at about 65mph)= easy lane changing and acceleration.
Boost away and have fun, just don't get stuipid and fly down the freeway.Because although i boost on the freeway it doesn't mean i'm flying down the freeway at 85mph because that is stuipid.

Very easy. For some reason when i;m in my civic i usually driver slower on the freeway (slower then when i'm driving my other cars). Why i don't know, but i usually drive about 65mph or so in a 60mph zone.

LoL...yeah me too. If i'm driving my truck I know i'm not gonna get pulled over like I would in the civic. One time I was on my way to work (nightshift) and I turn rgt on red where it was posted not to AND I rolled rgt threw the light (can easily see no one is coming) and as im turning I look over and see a cop sitting there just watching me drive by. He just watched-never pulled out. If that was my civic he would have came out of the lot sideways after me...
