since im going turbo on my d16y8...i was wondering if i should go bigger on my exhaust piping. right now, i have 2.25 mandrel piping to the muffler from the catalytic converter. i've heard that bigger [like 2.5" or 3"] would be better for a turbo setup. i am on my way with a homemade t3 turbo setup, so my question is whether it would be wise to get bigger exhaust pipes and what size is preferable.
From what I've been reading, you want the piping to be 10% larger than the turbine outlet diameter.
I've heard the 3" number quite a bit, but I don't know how people arrived at it and don't know how the amount of boost you want to run plays into that.
wouldn't u want the least restriction on ur exhaust? granted hes not boosting double digit psi, but still wouldn't it be beneficial to have a free'er flowing exhaust?
i've heard the 3" thrown around more than 2.5"...i just went with the 2.5 since the catback was cheap as hell and im on a budget.

Well, thats the part that I don't understand. For example, if I get the greddy kit which only has a 2" downpipe, then why do I need a 3" or even a 2.5" exhaust... A regular 2.25" should be more than sufficient with that kit because its still a lot bigger than the downpipe.
