Couple of turbo questions

Hey guys,
I noticed in the other post, B16ahybrid said:
"If you want it to last tune for 300whp (or so) or less....psi means nothing. If it takes 10psi to = 300whp then your good, if it takes 15psi to make 300whp then your good....invest in your tuning and you will NOT regret it, trust me."

I originally had an FMU, but I have had it chipped with Uberdata, and the car works like a dream... When I first got the turbo kit, I actually "turned down" the boost about 1-2 psi, b/c it was running closer to 8 and 9 psi when I first put it on. I was concerned about detonation issues b/c the setup I have has a higher C/R than regular B16A's ~10.6-10.7... Yes, it's possible, I just adjusted the length of the lever arm that connects to the wastegate.

My question is, now that I have Uberdata, DSM 450 injectors and some good fuel management, can I increase the boost back up to like 8-9??
In 4th gear, if it's floored, boost goes to 7 and stays there. It feels real strong, but I know it's def not pushing 300whp. Also, how much of an increase will adding 2.5-3" charge pipes give me?

Yes, if your wanting more power, tune it for your desired power level, not a desired boost level (unless you don't care about how much power it's making and want to be able to say you run x amount of boost).
running larger charge pipes won't increase performance unless your trying to puh more air through them then they can flow. Your not going to be making enough power IMO to need 3" charge pipes, stick with 2.5".
Boost level is irelivent, it's resistance.

Right,
That's what I thought, but some kid was saying it was better to run larger charge pipes... I told him I didn't need to. Thanks.
Considering I don't wanna tune for 6-7psi if I'm gonna up it to 8psi, I'll just wait till I turn up boost to tune it. But I'll be ok to turn it up then tune right?
I have it chipped with pretty much same map as my tuner, he has almost exactly the same setup, and he boosts 8psi and he's fine.
I guess the question really is, since the C/R is a little higher than regular B16A, (10.7) closer to ITR, is it ok for me to run NO MORE than 10psi?
I've heard guys throwing rods on B16A's with like 13psi...
Also, I have Starion FMIC, so I could boost a lil higher than 7 safely right?
Greddy "stage 2" kits come with better fuel management and an IC, and they're sold with a little more boost pressure, hence the "stage 2" right?
Thanks

If you have a Greddy turbo , you are fine.
Ive ran 12psi on a bigger trim t3/t4 on my stock ITR with no probs. Tuning means everything.

Also I have seen B series Rods handle like 475whp already.

IF TUNED CORRECTLY

Well, I don't have a greddy turbo...
I got a brand new Garrett T25, that came with the TSI kit.
I know it's not made for pushing lots of air at 8000 rpms, but I got it so I could start with a turbo car and upgrade it later... I can get custom plates welded if I have to change to different flange.
So, I know that a T25 isn't as efficient as a t3/t4, mainly cause its housing is so small... And I know what the efficiency means, that I could have high charge temps with a small turbo at high rpms.
I got this info from http://www.http://www.beesandgoats.c...g2icturbo.html

"The T25 turbo used in the 1995-1999 DSMs is a Garrett turbo. This turbo has a .45 A/R with a 45 trim turbine and 55 trim compressor wheel."

But on my turbo it says .48 A/R... So, then, am I ok with up to 10psi??

I love having boost at 2500 rpm, and I know I'm not gonna get 300whp out of it, but what do ya think I might be puttin down?? It definitely feels like 150+ lb of torque, the thing rips off the line like a DSM, albeit the all wheel drive

Thanks again

I personally think its fine over 10psi as long as the tuning is on par.

Yeah i've been seeing that lately too....b-series are breaking ground daily....still though IMO keep it around 300whp with a good tune, 350whp with an awesome tune.

hp is the limit, not psi. <-------- period
