Debating on Turbo Kit.

Hey guys first time to this forum anyways.

I have an 01 type R, right now. I was planning on going all motor, i love Toda(sorry).

Anyways i am stuck in the middle now Turbo Page Ranking N/A? is my main delima. I will ahve about 7g's to spend on each. I have all ready bought some N/A parts but i am cool with my shop so they will exchange them for turbo parts if need be.

I will be Driving this car everyday, to and from work and around town, so i need reliablty, that is why i wanted to go N/A. but i have been thinking lately, maybe i should go turbo.

Here are some of my questions;

-Should i go turbo and why?

-How would relaiblity be?

-What kit should i go with(i was thinking Drag Gen 3 or Rev hard, not sure though)?

-Besides turbo what should i look into making it stronger, what can i do to make sure that this fucker does not blow up on me?

-Is there anything else i shoudl comsider on my decsion(i know all the people here are biast, but i need soem opions)

thanks for all the help you guys can give me on my situation.

glad to hear you're exploring FI options.

with 7,000 you'll be to get a great set-up with plenty of mula left over.

-Should i go turbo and why?

Yes, I would go turbo. You can have much more power and tons more torque with turbo than natural aspiration, and for much cheaper too. Much more fun to drive a boosted car also, imo.

-How would relaiblity be?

definitely depends on your engine management and dedication to maintenence. there are basically three kinds of engine management you can go with. an FMU type check valve trick the engine into thinking it's ok band-aid deal (I would never recommend this, ever), V-AFC hack (decent if you're on a budget), and standalone EMS (by far the BEST). With Hondata (an EMS), you'll be able to have all aspects of the car tuned to near perfection. http://www.hondata.com

-What kit should i go with(i was thinking Drag Gen 3 or Rev hard, not sure though)?

Well, you can go with a kit, however take into account that you can piece together a custom kit yourself; ordering parts seperately to mix and match up your own set-up. This eliminates receiving parts with kits you won't use, ensuring you buy only what you think is the best for your application. But if you go kit, I'd recommend Rev Hard.

-Besides turbo what should i look into making it stronger, what can i do to make sure that this fucker does not blow up on me?

Besides the essential components, you can install new pistons, have the block sleeved, put new cams and rods in. You don't need to all or nothing from that list. Even just pistons would be a good step in added engine strength. However the real big time step up in stronger internals would be a sleeved block too.

-Is there anything else i shoudl comsider on my decsion

decide on how much power you want and where you'd like to see power/spool-up in the rpm band. this will help you buy the right parts and be a happy booster.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who's being indecisive about what to do with their ride. :laff: I'm still on the fence about the N/A setup I'm looking at or sticking with my original plan and going turbo. Thanks for the advice in my thread in the N/A forum, though. As far as wanting some boost with your Type-R, a good friend of mine back home has a '01 JRSC Type-R (Blasphemy! Talking about superchargers in a turbo forum! ). It's daily driven and he's never had a problem with it in the two years the supercharger's been on there. It doesn't boost that much (I think the pulley is only 5lbs.), but its quick as all get out off of the line. I'd give you some numbers but I don't know what he's putting down to the wheels and 1/4 mile. I would guesstimate lower 13s (13.4 or less) in the 1320, but don't quote me on it. As far as turbo, civperc hit it on the head basically. Although you can find JRSC's alot cheaper now than some turbo setups, turbos have the potential to make gobs more power than a belt-driven supercharger does anyday. Pulleys can only be so big ya know. Anyway, hope that gave you some help. Sorry if it didn't. Laters.
