f22 turbos
Hey,
i've got a 94 ex f22 (vtec, I can't remember if that's f22b1 or f22b2) anyways. Looking for a turbo setup. I noticed on the sticky that Drag is the only listed for accords (and it was discontinued pending a new generation setup). There was another kit for 94-97 accords with 2.3L engines (WTF, is that type R?) anyways. I was wondering what other f22 turbos were being used, how much you guys liked 'em, how much the setup cost you, etc. I'm a bit of a noob to turbos, so let me know whats up with how ya'lls is working.

Probably h23a? Which would have been a prelude engine for 92-95 production years. In fact I just bought this engine too. It is a 2.3L non vtec engine. I have heard rumor of a 2.3L vtec engine in the 97+ accord or lude.i forgot......
The type r or rather euro r was a h22a7 engine used in the UKDM? accords.
I have an f22 turbo. All the parts and the turbo were new except the bov. Tial 35mm wg, hks ssqv bov, turbonetics manifold, t3to4e garret, dsm 450s(cleaned and recondition), vafc, autometer boost gauge, af gauge, egt, apexi turbotimer. Pipes were mandrel bends that I custom made.
Everything for under $2,500.
The motor blew and I had to rebuild it with je pistons, arp studs, all new bearings, etc etc. because I got greedy and tried running 10psi with an fmu.
Now running 6psi daily and everything is great. Not even tunned. Once I get my hondata installed, gm 3 bar map, and tunned I will go to 12-15 psi.

I'm leaving for cali today, so I may not reply to this thread for a week or so, but how much do you think it would cost me to get the parts and labor for an f22 turbo setup? I want to do some rebuild on the engine just to make sure I don't blow it. I'd prolly run about 8 psi, daily drive. Not a big racer or anything, just to play around with. I've heard people estimate for parts like 3k, and labor I'd guess would be 1000 or so. Is this a correct guess or what? any feedback is welcome...thanks
I have a boosted F22 also and i can tell u one thing.....patience is a virtue. I waited around and bought all my parts dirt cheap from ebay and people parting out their cars...i even bought some stuff from SHO members until one day i realized i had everything and the install cost me $500.
All parts cost me about $1200.
Buying a kit is a waste of money.....build your own kit with what u want.

okay,
I'm back from cali and jet-lagged like a mofo. Thanks for the input fellas. 95accordlx, how long did it take you to collect parts from people? I like the sound of 1200 bucks for parts. Also, where did you go to get everything installed? Did you have to go to a speed shop? Around where I live there's a honda garage, and I'm pretty sure they do some tuning. The only really nice speed shop is about 2 and a half hours away.
EDIT: Oh yeah, what hp gains did you guys get and did you have to upgrade your tranny?
I know, lots of questions, just call me grasshopper...

I got most of my parts from people parting out their cars and i got some stuff from ebay........the only thing u should be wary of is buying a used turbo online or u may just get a fucked up one....it happened to me. Other than that everything went well.
If u have an auto...u will need a tranny cooler and if its a manual upgrade ur clutch.
I havent dynoed my car yet but ill tell u this.......its way faster than it was and im beating cars that used to walk me before!
BTW u will also need to upgrade ur brakes.....i got brembo rotors and axis metal masters.
