Finally getting turbo.. but a few ?'s left

Got a 99 Civic Ex and just saved up around 3000 enough for a turbo kit. Leaning towards the Greddy Kit for 92-95 civics but got a couple of questions

Would it be safe to run the turbo at stock boost without an fmic?

I did some searches earilier and a parts list I can up with besides the turbo kit are...

turbo timer..
a/f and other misc gauges
new clutch
boost controller (not sure if needed)

Was wondering what else would I need to properly run up to about 7 psi

Thanks

also anyone from the bay area know any reliable turbo installation shops? thx again

Personally, I wouldn't run a turbo at all without an fmic.

You will need all of the items that you listed, however if you plan on running more than 5psi, then you will need to work on your fuel system as well

- high flow in tank fuel pump (check out the walbro)
- VAFC w/larger injectors or standalone
- 1 step colder plugs, may want to consider new wires like 8.5mm MSD's
- Blow Off Valve

What exhaust are you currently running? You will most likely want something at 2.5"+

so to run stock boost I would need..

the Greddy turbo and fmic kit
turbo timer
a/f and other misc gauges
new clutch
2.5 diameter exhaust
and a blow off value

I'll look into these parts to see which one works well with each other

get a 3" downpipe-back or cat-back exhaust, 2.5 isn't a wide enough diameter for a turbo app.

unless you're getting a wideband O2 sensor, don't get an A/F gauge, cause it'll only be somewhat accurate at WOT. for gauges, it's best to get an EGT and boost gauge at least.

for injectors, get dsm 450s, or rc 440s. if you don't get a standalone system (i.e. Hondata), then you'll need an AFC and perform the AFC hack with it ( http://www.illimport.com/forum/showt...s=&threadid=85 ) If you do get a standalone, you won't need an AFC.

def. get an FMIC

an in-tank walbro pump is a neccessity as well.

for blow-off valve, I recommend the GReddy Type-S. It's great, and perfect for what you'll be running.

anything previously mentioned in this thread, I havn't said it this post, means you should get it.

good luck and post up any more questions. also, post up your final list before ordering so we can let ya know if you left anything out.

with greddy stock boost, 2.5" is the ideal diameter. but if he plans to go with more boost later on the road, then 3" would be needed. plus, that D16 of his won't put out much air as other engine such as the b-series.

To run stock boost you need 1 stage colder plugs, fuel pump, and blow off valve. You do not NEED a intercooler.

To boost 7 psi the same as above but get the intercooler, any higher get a decent tuning device I am not sold on the afc hack so I wouldn't reccomend it, untill I see more positive results, from people I know, I mean they love it at EDIT but no one here seems to have had a decent result.:
