First read for anyone considering going turbo

THIS SHIT GETS EXPENSIVE! Seriously before you think about getting into a turbo setup and doing it right realize you will be spending more money then you probably expected. When people say they "nickle and dime" you to death they lied. They more like $50 and $100 you to death. Just injectors, a fuel pump, boost controller, tuning chip such as hondata and some good tuning will run you around $1,500. You still haven't even touched on engine mods. Your old clutch is going to hate you so there is atleast $350 and almost double that if you can't put it in yourself. Your old exhaust probably isn't big enough so unless you go custom be ready to cough up around $500 beans there. Now your turbo kit is probably going to run around $3,000 unless you are using a greddy kit and even after buying an intercooler you are close to that $3,000 mark. Now factor in your time you will spend getting it setup right and finding boost leaks and all that junk. Now there is still no gaurantee that your engine will last very long. In a few months you might be putting out a few bills for a new short block. Point is....if you plan to go turbo....be ready to spend a lot of money....this isn't a kids game.

That is true.
As with most anything, quality costs money. Power costs money, reliabilty costs money. Want all three, start saving now.
None of which come's cheaply.
Want reliabilty invest in tuning
Want power Invest in tuning and quality
want quality, get a good job ...

Want to get a "KIT" as cheaply as possible go for the non-intercooled greddy kit, while it's the cheapest it also makes the least amount of power, and is the least reliable (as far as pre-fabed kits go).
Got some money to spend, go for the full race kit, sure it costs 3 times that of the greddy kit but you also get 3 times the power, 3 times the quality, three times the reliability, and not to mention a bov, intercooler, and the bling factor of having that badass manifold.
In this sport money = power and reliabilty.

I have to disagree with the greddy kit being unreliable. A greddy kit and greddy intercooler is an excellent choice for people looking to run turbo on a stock engine. Even with the emanage you can put down respectable numbers with the greddy kit.

I'm not ragging on the greddy kit. I was going with two opposite ends of the spectrum. Greddy is the only kit that I know of that will sell without an intercooler or bov. I was speaking of the base greddy kit WITHOUT intercooler,e-manage,or bov.
A turbo kit without those items IMO is unreliable and not a good set-up.
Add the e-manage,intercooler and bov and you have a decent kit for the money.
It was merely for comparison, and to make my point. thats all.
greddy is a great kit for those who have emission requirements to meet, it's not for me though

My car is currently in the shop being all setup with my custom kit I bought in peices, I thought it was pretty reasonable - with labor I spent about $1600 on the kid before tuning (tuning is probaby to run me about $150) My clutch will probably hate me so I'm going to look into that depending, but I think after I play with my civic for a few more months its going up for sale (Would it be worth more with or without the turbo setup?) And I'm buying a DSM GSX! Hopefully I don't blow the motor this summer...guess Ill have to keep it in low gear if I want to have to have money for a GSX later this year.

About $20 an hour of wideband o2 on the street and another couple hours on the dyno.
