Yo, I'm getting ready to do a clutch/flywheel upgrade in my boosted B16 CRX. I am trying to decide on a flywheel weight. The lightest one is 7.5lbs, and the next one up is 9.75lbs. If I get the 7.5lb one, will my car stall? What weight are other people running. It is a daily driver, but I don't drive very far. I don't mind loosing a little drivability for performance. I just don't want a totally unstreatable setup. What weight is best??

If you go to light you will loose torque and a b16 has none anyway so be careful. I run a 9.5 on my street car but factory on my race car, I like the 9.5 because lets you rev quicker.

Yea the lighter it is the faster the motor will rev but it will take more to get it moving off the line or lose torque so id go with a 9.75 so that you get the best of both worlds sort of.
It makes a world of difference.
Did you read the replies they stated?

In contrast to owners/builders of traditional muscle and sports cars who seek to improve the performance of already potent platforms,
we welcome the challenge of making performers out of cars that were never intended to be such.
I have a friend that has a 5.5 lb fly wheel in a SOHC and its ridicoulous to get it moving and there is no torque but it revs up quick but it wasnt meant for street driving. Two pounds makes a hell of a difference when its spinning thousands of times a minute.
I believe a stock flywheel with a little weight reduction will be your best answer. The turbo is whats going to help your engine rev up so really you need more torque and a light weight flywheel will kill you. .
So maybe go with the 9lb one.
Peace.

You have to control your smiles and your cries..
Yeah, i'm probably gonna listen to everyone and go with the 9.75lb one. Thanks... Any more replies are welcome, I still have a few more days till I buy one.
You can think about it this way too....if your drag racing a Harley and a Kawasaki Ninja, the Harley is gonna be way quick initialy off the line because of the ridiculously heavy engine components and its ability to "snap" off the line, the Ninja on the other hand will have a harder time getting off the line (though still quick) but will wrap up way quick by comparison of the Harley.
I personaly like an in between weight when boosted (about 10-12 lbs.)

Your talking about streetability more than anything. With a boosted car, a flywheel is going to have minimal impact on acceleration. The biggest change your going to experience is how the car pulls off from the line. The lighter you get, the harder it is going to be to drive on the street. A heavier flywheel also is going to be alot better running a slick at the track.
My personal recommendation to people is lighten it up a bit for a tad more throttle response, and easier rev-match for downshifts, but don't go too light in order to help launch the car and keep it streetable.
So what brand sells a 9.75lb or 11lb flywheel.....also i know those are opinions but are there facts out there on which weight is better for boosted cars?
