Got my turbocharger!

And I need some help. It's marked Garrett AiResearch M27 on the cold side housing, and It's a T3, since it bolts right up to the drag manifold I got. Anybody know ANYTHING about this turbo? I can't find the A/R ratios on it, but there's a stamp on it that LOOKS like it says 68. That's all I can find. It's supposedly off a SAAB (early ninetys) but I have searched and searched and can't find any more info.

HELP!

Is this charger any good for my application? (sig)

Wastegate Block Off Flange

On a second note: Does anyone know of a block off flange to plug the flange on the DRAG manifold for an external wastegate? I don't feel like buying an external and plumbing it- I want to stick to the internal until I decide to get serious.

you'll know if its a good turbo for your application if you do not mind the turbo lag you'll have or if you can tollerate it.

I'd agree with xdannyx25. .63.

If you don't like how your used/new turbo reacts to your setup then you might have to change some things on it...like the size of the exhaust housing a/r or the compressor trim. Just something to think about. Oh, and if your turbo is only oil cooled then be careful you run enough oil through the housing before actually firing up the engine. That shaft will be delicate being that its off a factory turbo'd car.

It's oil + water cooled.

I have the feeling my car is going to be out of commision for a week judging by all the things you guys keep telling me!

Anyone in CT?

A week is a good guess. Between my brother and myself who knew exactly everything we had to do we had mine done in 3 days. I spent about a day and a half doing some tuning, but it wasn't tuned to be daily runable/drivable till about a week after that. It just takes time.

Make sure you have another vehicle to go p/u misc. parts you'll need. Like hose/pipe connectors, various nuts, bolts, new oil and filter, Hondabond or some sort of RV gasketmaker/silcone sealant, don't forget your NGK BKR7E spark plugs, and don't forget to have all your vacuum line measured out to make sure you have enough.

The number stamped on the turbo is NOT .63! It is stamped on the compressor housing I then 68 right below it. Other readable number is M27. INSIDE of the compressor housing outlet the number 42 is stamped. It's a Garrett AiResearch as I said, But JEEZ. Are t3's really THIS small? The thing is no more than 6" wide (the entire compressor housing) and the inlet is a mere 21/8". The outlet is 1.5" ID and 2.0"OD. Is this a turbo for a car, or for a lawnmower? I never realized they were this small??? Anyone else verify the size of their t3?

Yeah, the size of a T3 compressor is pretty small. Step up to a T4 compressor and then you're looking at a good size turbo. Of course, go compare your T3 to a small T25 and you'll be happy.

I've got a T3/T4 on my car right now, and I'm selling an M24 T3/T04E you might like since the T3 is so small. The T3 exhaust housing is the same size as the housing on the one you have, but then you look at the compressor and people will be impressed!

How big are the GReddy TD05H-18G turbo's? Are those pretty nice sized? How do they compare to a T3/T04E? Thanks.

From what I understand I think the 18g is about the same size. More comparatively I think the 20g is closer to what some of the T3/T04Es with big exhaust housings like .82 or 1.xx+ are like.

I'd steer clear of the GReddy kit cause of its limitations. I've seen guys with the same amount of boost, an FMU and a Revhard or Drag kit and they make more power. Better yet get a RevHard kit with a Hondata and you'll make a lot more power than the same GReddy kit at any given psi. Its the GReddy Mitsu. turbo and the GReddy blue box that limit it from putting down as good of numbers.

your turbo sounds like the same one i am using on my 96 hatch y8..mine came off of an 80's saab..from what i could find out it has a .42 compressor side and a .48 turbine..mine works well and spools up relatively quick..i was using a starion intercooler and had no problem pushing 9 psi..if you just want to get everything setup for now that turbo will work fine..i ran mine for over a year..i just upgraded my intercooler and charge lines and plan on upgrading my t3 to a t3 super 60..
