egt= exhaust gas temp.
af=air fuel
fp=fuel pressure
boost, oil pressure, and all above are just gauges, they pretty much explain themselves

Something to contorl the boost.... Some are manual and some are electric which you can adjust from inside the car. Just depends on how much $$$$ you have. Just mu .02 Cents

No a Boost gauge, not boost controller. A boost gauge just tells you the vacuum on one side and how much boost your running on the other side.

Most important:

Boost gauge: shows, in kPa, bars, or PSI, how much boost your engine is seeing, so that you don't over-boost and blow an engine.

EGT (exhaust gas temperature): Shows how hot the exhaust gases are that are coming out of your engine. This is much more accurate than an 02 sensor, aka air/fuel ratio sensor (unless you have 800 for a wide-range lambda). Generally, if the temperature goes over 1600F, than you're running too lean.

Normal 02 sensors only provide a significant voltage difference around stoichiometric a/f (14.7/1), so you don't know accurately when your engine is rich/lean.

Wide-range lambda sensors provide a nice linear voltage output vs a/f, so they're the only acceptable sensor if you plan on having an a/f meter, but again, they're VERY expensive.

Other good sensors to have would be:

- fuel pressure (esp. if using a fuel pressure riser for fuel management)

-oil pressure
-oil temperature

Good Luck!
Nick

if you get the boost controller, will that just take the place of the boost gauge? and also, if you have a wastegate w/ a spring set at 8lbs, can you set the controller to raise the boost to 9lbs? thanks.

Depends if its an internal wastegate or extrenal.
Here are some links to web sites about turbos.
And no it will not take the place of a boost gauge.

www.homemadeturbo.com
www.turbocrx.net

These are great sites for a beginer who is learning about trubos.

it will take the place of the gauge only if it is the type of controller that has that option built in, not all of them read boost.

and yes you can raise it from 8-9 with a controller, doesn't matter if its a manual controller or electronic, or if the wastegate is internal or external.
